Transwoman Plans Escape to Thailand Amid UK's Anti-Trans Atmosphere

Alexis Solia, a British transwoman and activist, has announced her plans to leave the UK following a controversial Supreme Court ruling that has intensified her fears for safety. The April decision clarified that "sex" under the Equality Act refers strictly to biological sex, not gender identity, a ruling that has sparked widespread concern within the transgender community.

Solia, who has endured years of harassment and abuse, sees the ruling as a tipping point. "It feels like we’ve been told we’re not welcome anymore," she remarked, expressing her heightened anxiety about venturing outdoors.

The 30-year-old content creator is now preparing to move to Chiang Mai, Thailand, in search of a more inclusive environment. Although Thailand doesn’t provide full legal recognition for trans identities, Solia hopes it offers a respite from the discriminatory climate in the UK and access to gender-affirming care.

In the UK, Solia has faced relentless harassment, recounting experiences of being groped in pubs, misgendered in public, and physically attacked. "It’s almost like a letter saying: ‘You’re not allowed in society anymore,’" she explained, echoing the sentiment that the ruling has exacerbated anti-trans hostility.

Solia criticised prevailing myths about the threat transwomen supposedly pose in female spaces, calling them "ridiculous." She argued that being forced to use men’s facilities presents significant dangers, given the hormonal treatments many trans individuals undergo.

The rise in transphobia, according to Solia, is intertwined with broader misogyny, highlighting a culture increasingly intent on controlling women. Data supports these fears, with a National Audit Office report showing a rise in sexual assault rates against women in England and Wales, coupled with increased reports of such crimes.

Prominent figures in the trans community, such as Jane Fae from TransActual, have noted a spike in trans individuals seeking to flee the UK since the court ruling, citing increased violence, stress, and mental health struggles.

Solia is set to attend London Pride before relocating, actively funding her move through a fundraiser that has already amassed nearly half of the £5,000 needed. The generosity of supporters has provided a silver lining amidst the challenges. "Seeing that support brought me to tears," she shared, illustrating the community’s resilience and solidarity.

In Thailand, Alexis aims to reclaim her life free from the "bureaucracy and barriers" she faces in the UK, pursuing hormone therapy and possible surgical interventions in a culture she perceives as more accepting. While acknowledging that no place is perfect, Solia’s primary desire is simply to live safely and freely.

I didnt have an opinion before and didnt care, but the more these people keep stuffing their 'rights' in my face the more i start to dislike them. Why can't they accept that they have the same rights as everyone else and stop demanding things that marginalizes them? it is not society that marginalizes them but they themselves. should a tranny man be allowed to serve his sentence in a female prison? Hell no!!! So boo hoo to this guy and Jimmy crack corn!

I would imagine any abuse or harassment was brought on by being an 'activist' and craving attention, rather than just getting on with life dressed as a woman.

Nobody cares about you or what you think you are, until you try to force youself onto them.

Pretty sure the LGB's are fed up with these freaks hyjacking their community.

The court ruled that if at birth if you’ve got 2 balls & a dick you’re a man if born with a vagina you’re a women

that’s it! I you want to wear dresses & high heels make up etc that’s your choice but also means men’s toilets are for men even with a dress on & womens toilets are purely for women- same as changing rooms

don’t see any confusion there

Maybe people are tired of having it shoved in their faces 24/7... [pun intended]

One more katoey to harass and confuse the poor Indians  :whistling:

Looks like it's from Stoke-on-Trent 🥺

Apart from the trans issue there's a lot more to living in Thailand than just upping sticks and plonking yourself down here. Moving to another country requires research and planning regarding visas, healthcare, location, relationships etc.

Maybe she has done some research but social media, Tiktok in particular, is littered with people young and old who have come here without fully thinking it through.

I guess it might be a bit easier now with so-called digital nomad visas. Good luck to her.

They won’t let you play for the women’s soccer team here either, duck. Try next door!

"""wonder how HE plans to stay here and for how long"""

Hummm, not old enough for retirement, school is also out at 180 days at a time, maybe a digital nomad visa - whoops not enough money for 6 months.

Allabout money --- and I could go on....

"''5,000 needed.""" Chump change wont go far.

Will be needing AT THE VERY LEAST 20,000bt monthly to live some "sort" of life - a work permit in the future?

If I remember new 'rule" most people now need 20,000bt on person to enter Thailand.

Finally, how to pay for the wanted surgery?
