Do you still use the Upper Class Colostomy bag when you travel Economy Class?🙄

Don't joke about that, there are many users of Aseannow  who have such a serious medical issue. No picnic, I'm sure.

When I saw the headline of this thread I thought it was going to be about something ridiculous such as wearing slacks and a collared shirt !!...

But... you've made a wholly valid point: Just like being in any reasonable restaurant (non beach) there are certain reasonable social standards to adhere to and I quite agree - I wouldn't want to be making 'skin contact' with the passenger next to me.

Seems you handled this exactly as it should have been.

Fortunately - most passengers are always dressed within reasonable limits for this not to be an issue.

I rode the inter-terminal train at BKK yesterday morning and casually observed a white bloke in his wife beater, holding onto the overhead grab handle with his sweaty, hairy armpit about a foot away from the face of an Asian woman.

I guess she's already told all her friends about her gross 45-second travel experience, so thought I would share it with you.

Several years ago, a mate of mine, post-op and headed home to the UK, had the seal break on his temporary colostomy bag at around 31'000 feet over India.

I'm pretty sure that some passengers swore to never fly with BA ever again.

Traveling on an Emirates flight bound for Dubai I was sitting in a window seat and a dark skinned man, maybe Indian, dressed in shorts and a wife beater sat beside me.

I asked him to put on a shirt, but he obviously did not speak English, so I got up and said "excuse me" and went to find a flight attendant, she was very pleasant as was I.

I then went back to my seat expecting him to be sitting there, but he was gone. I then sat in my seat to be joined by two attractive girls.

My question is why was he not stopped from entering the plane and told to cover up? Is there not a dress code on planes?

The answer is Yes there is, at least on US airlines.

I'm a ground supervisor for United. Last week we had a group of kids off for spring break wearing tee shirts 'I eat pussy'.

I told them they couldn't fly, and the Capt came out and said the same that he wouldn't take them on his plane.

Strangely the boys just turned around and put on a shirt or jacket. The adult chaperones  were the stroppy ones.

"I called United Customer support and they said it was OK"

Capt was pretty blunt. "Don't care what you think you heard, this is my plane, change the shirt or you aint flying"

This is the appropriate attire for air travel, cool, practical and guaranteed not to cause offence to the easily offended, it's even got matching shoes to compliment the whole outfit, perfect for the jet-setter gentlemen.

And fully inclusive for black and white travellers!😉 FB_IMG_1748651642147.jpg.d982bf6bde186283254483549cd08ca1.jpg

Thanks. I would in this case have mentioned the nationality no matter what it was.

Judging by a lot of the get ups I've seen in the immigration queue, I suspect a lot of airlines just wing it when it comes to a dress code.

I'm always hot on an airplane too and would like them cooler.  You can put on an extra layer or a blanket if you're too cold, I can't take something off as it might cause the netizens of Asean Now to rise up in disgust. 🙂

You don't say what you were wearing? Was it appropriate to where you were travelling? Maybe an email to the fashion police might have been the "proper" response?

You, on the other hand, come across as a complete tool – first, for trying to force a faux-moral high ground by injecting racism into a conversation where it clearly doesn’t belong; and second, for that laughably snobbish remark suggesting that flying Economy somehow makes one a loser....

What did the man's skin color have to do with his (lack of suitable) attire?

To give you a chance to sit next to "two attractive girls"...

No problem with shorts and T-shirts, but vests are unacceptable.

You might get away with that attitude in first class or even business class and the airline might even agree with you.  But I'm assuming your referring to flying in the manky, cattle-class with the plebs in steerage.  Really - pay for better seating, otherwise, "suck it up."  And as I stated above, and in past posts - I dress business casual when I fly, and generally dress that way whenever I go out of the house, at a minimum, slacks and a polo shirt unless I'm exercising.  I find it comfortable.  But I'm not a pounce would tries to dictate what other people wear to freaking McDonalds and in coach-class on flights.  Gawd.

As a posh git I only fly first class. If I could not afford it I would not fly at all.

Nothing......  neither would his age, gender, height etc...

.... But if the Op had written an "Old, hairy, lanky Western man" would you have still pee'd your pants a little at the opportunity to cry moral outrage and racism from atop your rickety soapbox?.....  Or is outrage only fashionable when the target ticks your approved victim boxes?

The OP used a descriptor. A word. To set a scene. That’s it. But of course, nuance isn’t exactly the strong suit of the perpetually offended.

Now...   you can mince back whatever exhausting virtue-signalling hobby you lot are peddling this week – bra-burning, book-banning, or rewriting history with crayons. The rest of us will be over here, in the real world, not tripping over ourselves to be offended by adjectives.

It's actually more extreme for airline employee's.

When we travel as NonRev (free) there are very strict dress requirements.

Women cannot wear any crop tops or revealing shorts.

Guy's no tank tops, again no revealing shorts.

It's just dress appropriately and you're fine.

Just imagine if you were traveling with your Mom, make her proud

I find the aircon on most flights to be too cold and windy to warrant shorts & T shirt. I wear long shirt and a jacket.  Seems silly that they issue all passengers with blankets to ward off the cold.

At 30,000 feet it's cold outside they don't need aircon it's free.

I can't pull the trigger on business class for 2 either. I'm high hiso with Premium Economy.

International flights are usually far too cold to endure without a jumper, fleece or some other warm, long sleeved item of clothing. Even more necessary  when travelling in Europe's  colder seasons.

When landing at LHR in winter , I often see people departing the airport in shorts and t-shirts when I am wearing a warm jacket that I have unpacked from my suitcase. Maybe I have become too acclimatised to Thailand's hot weather.

When I see people travelling in economy, wearing a shirt, tie and jacket for what is around a twelve hour flight, I often wonder if they are hoping to land an upgrade if available. I suppose there must be some advantage over the guy in the wife beater.

Would you (or any of us) really feel comfortable sat next to another 'vest wearing' version of ourselves for 6 hours ????

Just wondering what your thoughts would be on an attractive large breasted woman wearing a vest and no bra be ? :wai:

There are actually 20 posters here who would not mind a mans bare flesh possibly touching them at times on a 6 hour flight. Unless of course, well you know......

I just can't see myself paying $50-100 an hour extra for a slightly better meal and wider seat.

Not after a childhood of scooping up the neighbors' dog poop for less than $1 an hour.

But if I'm on the company dime, sure.
