The PM is going against the Thai MoH and ignoring the reason why the  smoking areas were removed. (They were poorly vented, dirty  and facilitated an unhealthy behavior. There is no need for a smoking room at BKK. There should be a smoking area at the terminal outside. People can smoke before or after a flight in the designated outside area.

There was a glorious time when you could smoke outdoors while drinking beer as you waited for flights to Samui. That was lovely. Alas, i no longer smoke and barely drink

The current PM doesn't have these skills. 

 

Having smoking "rooms" without bothering non-smokers is technically absolutly no problem. With a underpressurized room not one tiny bit of smoke can ever leave this. In Europe as far as I experianced everywhere possible. Zurich - Switzerland for sure.

 

On the other hand - the ventilation system has to be separated completely  from the rest.

 

As I am a strong smoker, honestly - I always survived if it took me a few hours longer without my addiction.

 

But if there are not any other urgent problems that should be solved here in Thailand - fine with me to discuss this "issue".

Dint expect it and was just passing one, leaving me flabbergasted, but used it.

All though I had a nicotine plaster on. It sure helps.

The smoking area's arent shown on signs, so for the fastest way ask an Emirates employer.

The smoke easily escaped the   room and would hang over the immediate area. The worse ones were the lounges  near the  departure gates. It would cover the waiting area. Alot of people would complain.

The smokers don't notice. It's a lot like people who constantly pass foul gas or have BO. They don't smell it, and expect everyone else to tolerate their poor hygiene.

Re-open the existing ones that were closed a few years ago, cost would be minimal.

As for the negative comments from the do gooders, being non smokers, here saying this is a dumb idea and blah blah. Well go have a walk in most cities of  Thailand it's already full of smoke and exhaust fumes. Yet most, if not all of you live with that every day whilst in Thailand. Especially, those of you who live in Chiang Mai which is one of the most polluted cities in the world and you worry about a small group of smokers at an airport within a closed room so you cannot smell or breath the cigarette smoke.

 

As for me it's a fantastic thing to get those rooms back, especially after a long flight. If smoking expedites my death so be it. It's my choice not yours.

I think it's a great idea, should never have closed them, I see she's getting her priorities right, the most sensible thing I have ever seen a Shinawat do, all you need now is to allow smoking on Thai airways

Once you leave certain "nanny states" you will observe that many countries, whilst limiting where you smoke, do actually provide areas for smokers in Airports (airside) and elsewhere. From memory, the UK is one of the toughest on enforcing no-smoking airside.  

 

I'm a former smoker, although not a born again non-smoker, so know what it's like to step off a long flight with the knowledge that you have run the gauntlet before finally being allowed that nicotine injection.

 

I agree but only if allowed to vape in there. Otherwise, it would only further highlight the hypocritical goverment policies that prioritise profit over public health.

a) no money can be made as just reopening a door leaves little money-trail to line pockets
b) it would not serve as smokescreen for the PM, who apparently is in charge of such things. This despite a dangerous border conflict with Cambodia, the purchase of Air Force toys, seeking alternatives to submarine engines (as the Germans refuse to sell them).
