What has happened to Pattaya?

Featured Replies

I've just arrived in Pattaya for the first time in 17 years and I am totally flabbergasted. This place has changed beyond all recognition. It's constant hassle, full of Indians and very expensive.

Where have all the pretty ladies gone? All I see around me is old women and plumpers. So, so so sad. I'm leaving tomorrow.

Mark.

OP : South Pattaya is now like  the worst slum from Bombay.      And there are so many Russian peasants in parts of the place they are known as cheap Czar-lies.....

It's not for everyone.  Maybe try Bangkok or Phuket?

You need to know where to go, if you hang about beach road or 2nd road before Pattaya Tai you'll see hundreds of Indians who walk in the road and have no walking etiquette

I was there in 1986.  Came back in 2007.  Spent one night and left.  Never returned.  No plans to return.  So - I do understand.

They are still there but perhaps not so evident at 1pm.  Seek and ye shall find.

I visited more than a few times 2003-2006, and definitely not for me.  The touristy area anyway(surf to 3rd rd to Suk rd/hwy 3).   Outside of town would be fine, guessing, though not much of a an of Chonburi province, the parts I've visited.

Don't even think I'd like it if I was 20 yrs younger & single.  I enjoyed Udon Thani as a younger (shy of 50 yr old), single  weekend warrior.

Thailand 2008.  Maybe I saw Pattaya for the only time (less than 24 hours) in 2009, I guess.   It felt like The Devil himself showed me his bathroom and said, "If you like this, your soul is mine!!!!"     Only remember the Indian suit sellers.....lol.....Lots of Russians.    It's my favorite place to talk about, and I'm sure it's terrible now.

This had got me to think if Saigon is still the same as 2010.   No, but I bet it's way better than Pattaya.  Detroit?  No, Pattaya wins that one.

Many, esp. the ones not working at bars, have long gone online to advertise their business... 😉

All manner of flotsam and jetsam. I'll be taking a cattle prod with me next time I visit.

Went to Pattaya for the first time 25 years ago; hordes of pretty girls, eager to please, and Pattaya inexpensive, with a beautiful beach promenade... Then they cut down most of the trees there, and made the beach promenade a permanent construction site. Emphasizing on busloads of Chinese, as well as Indian tourists, while building oversized shopping malls, Pattaya, IMHO, lost a lot of its charm... Have spent less and less time there since 2006.

Did the sheer number of ladyboys shock you?

Yes. You left for 17 years. Those plumpers have been awaiting your return all that time.

It's a general trend, wherever you go. The ugly prevails over the beautiful more and more.

In the last thirty years man seems to have developed a tendency to exalt the horrid, from art to cinema to the way of dressing...tattoos, piercings and the list is so long.

Don't forget duck lips.  Whoever started that trend should be lined up against a wall...

...and pelted with rotten tomatoes.

The very good looking Thai girls can now work in upmarket places and other countries - where they can make a lot more money and have a better clientele. Why get paid so little by fat ugly sexpats in Pattaya, when there are now more upmarket places in Bangkok and Phuket, and also much more money on offer in nearby overseas countries - a lot more.
