I have a “drinking friend” who lives in the UK who has found “true love” in the bar.

He is 58, divorced and seems fairly well off.

She is damn hot, 26 from Burirum province. Friendly, speaks good English, 8 year old daughter lives in Burirum.

He plans to come to Thailand 2-3 times per year. 
She claims to have about 40,000 in debts with crazy interest which is why she is working the bar.

He is going to pay these debts so she can go back to live with her kid in Burirum, and she can get a normal job and he will top up her salary if needed. 
Everyone happy.

 

Except now the bar is demanding 50,000 baht from him so she can go”retire” from the bar. 
And she is agreeing with the Mamasan. “Justified” because Mamasan gave her the job, accommodation, lent her money, bought her clothes etc

It is getting ugly.
He is refusing. Mamasan isn’t budging. 
 

Why can’t she just quit like at any other job? 
Interested to hear views from other bar owners.

Not a scam.  It's up to him if he wants to pay.  And it's up to her whether she's prepared to walk away from the bar without it being paid.

Watch the bars you frequently visits 1. Every month if they have popular attractive girls. 

 

Or restaurants or any other shop in tourist districts 

 

Some places where they are short of staff, they even pay every 2 weeks, and or allow freelancers to work when they want or need and get lady drinks, % of bar fees.

Let your “friend” go for it, it’ll be a good learning experience for him/you or whatever. Or just find a woman who has her own career in a normal daytime society and a well developed self esteem.

It's an established fact that "damn hot" 26 year olds don't like Thai men, young men, slim men.

My first job in the 90's is still demanding payment everytime I go with another firm.   It's a lifelong contract.  In fact, my 9th gf just emailed me for another 239,379 baht in lost appreciation and dinners.   My 374th Tinder match is asking for 80,000 if I choose someone else. 

 

Thanks for paying 50k, but now the debt is 100k.  and my dad owes 39k and my mom 98k and my 8 year old kid now owes 50k.  and our farm owes 799k

I can tell you one thing, there are many falang around in Thailand who runs out of money long time before their government benefits arrive for the new months, and these wifes still cares for them, and stuck with them. 

 

Seen it personally, alcoholics, making the woman and her family a living hell, but they still there.

 

There is not one way abuse by Thai women only. There is quite a few lunatics out there who is foreigners to.

But it is three letters. 

The girls are generally under no contractual obligation which would require a purchase of their freedom. They can just walk away, but they will never work at that bar nor any within the jungle telegraph broadcasting range of that bar.

I can't speak for everyone but at age 67, I'm told frequently I look 45. My usual attire is a freshly ironed dress shirt and slacks with my Italian handstitched loafers....no socks.

She can quit its a scam by the bar. If  they didn't know a foreigner was involved she could just walk away. Both the business and most likely  also the girl are scam and he's falling into the typical trap of a sexpat.
