Next week I am going to Ubon (the candle festival). I live in Pattaya, so getting there by bus was no choice. Instead, I looked for cheap flight tickets. I found one on Viet jet. 1200 baht for a ticket to Ubon and back to Bangkok a couple of days later. I started ordering the ticket. After I had filled in the flight dates and times, I got a question: did I want a special seat (that would cost extra)? I did not fill it in (the answer no was not a possibility). Then I get a new question: Do you want a meal? As before, I did not fill it in as this question, like the other, could not be answered with a no. Then I got a third question, and that was how I would like to pay. They gave three choices, and within the time limit they gave I only had one choice: Pay on 7/11.  Then came the scam. It will cost me more than 700 Baht extra to pay at 7/11. That is more than half of the price for the tickets from Bangkok to Ubon and back again! Have you ever heard of something like that before? So Viet Jet, I will fly with you this time, but never again, because I do not like to feed scammers.

I don't think it is a scam. They must pay 7-11 for their labor, time, etc. So, they calculated the direct cost (the cost 7-11 charges them) + the overhead cost (the cost of their staff to work with 7-11 and make it all happen.) The problem is where those negotiators didn't convince 7-11 that people who come into their store usually buy other products while there.

It seems the problem is with you.

I created a dummy booking to  verify your claim. There was no obligation to buy any extras. I went to checkout and did see the following advise;

You have not selected some additional service.

This may prevent you from receiving certain optional services for this flight.

Would you like to continue without selecting additional service?

I proceeded through to payment.

Payment Fee164.78 THB

Total payment 2,309.18 THB

So aside from the ridiculously low airfare to Ubon, you only have an issue of a service fee. This is the fee the service providers pass on. I had the option of a QR code, a Credit Card, a. wallet payment and a bank account transaction.

You are getting alow cost airfare and  are complaining. You want something for free. Unhappy? Go fly another airline and pay a higher airfare. Still unhappy, go ride the bus.

Why so rude?

Times are tough.

It is neither fair, nor reasonable to trash talk a discount airline that has done nothing wrong. The airline does not force anyone to take options as was claimed. Thai Viet Air is one of the better LCC carriers and does not deserve this  type of  attack.

1200 baht for an airfare is ridiculously low, and the person comes on to whinge about it. Times are not tough for everyone, and if they are that tough for someone, then they should not be  running off for an excursion.

Another big scam

I'm not sure if you fly domestically regularly, I do and the price quoted are always ++.

Extra for seat, food, tax, different payment charges etc. it adds up.

My girlfriend takes the bus, Nakhonchaiair bus station located Sukhumvit, near Pattaya Klang.

Gold class, 680 baht ticket to Ubon, long trip.

Air Asia nicks you for credit card payments and everyone rapes you on baggage, so what?  Suck it up

Plus they cancel your flights sometimes, and don't refund you. Or, like recently, I booked a flight with them (no other choice), and, shortly after booking, they changed my departure time from 6 in the evening to 8 in the morning...

It happened to me. I should have been arriving in Indonesia at 6pm, but the cancellation meant arriving after midnight! I cancelled the flight and got a full refund.

Welcome to the world of budget airlines.

The start from...

Good you didn't write "new scam".

Age old from the beginning.

Pay for payment one of the biggest jokes.

It's all about ranking in searches to get up in the list and lure you to their site.

1200 for a domestic return?

For me obviously a decoy.

1000 one way was the rule of thumbs before COVID..

Not much less than Thai Airways depending on dates (varies widely).

And there you see the final price when browsing.

Typical AN thread hitting  the topic starter who has a legit (although long known) complaint.

Airasia even charges 250 Baht for payment fee if you pay with their own Air Asia credit card. Additional charges are  normal practice here. The first price for the flight is never the final price.

Not any longer they're not which is a shame as it was handy.  They've moved to a new place near Decathlon.

Was that AirAsia, and if so, did they actually give you a refund, or just a voucher for future bookings? (They gave me three for flights cancelled during the pandemic, and, despite trying numerous times, I was never successful in using them for any bookings.)

Yes, it was Air Asia, but it was booked through Booking.com. I got the full amount transferred to my bank account in a couple of months or so. I still have the return flight with them, but I'm not happy about it, and will not be booking with them again.

Yes, I cannot recommend them. I even went as far as going to their sales office in Kuala Lumpur, and even there they were unwilling to even help, or show me how to get those vouchers accepted by their booking system. Sadly, this company, during the pandemic, went downhill, just scamming (many) customers...

Recently, I only booked a one-way flight with them cause my employer set a low budget for a reimbursable flight, and I too did not book directly with them. Shortly after, however, they changed the departure time from evening to morning, so that I had to take a day off!
