Was I crazy to buy a Neta V now the company is going bust?

    You're in Thailand, do what many Thais do, don't use the back window.   Just fill that space with some fluffy pillows or cute stuffed animals.

    At that price you have got a bargain in my opinion.   If you can charge it from your solar then it will literally cost you nothing to run.

Regarding turning off cruise control, try touching the brake, works with most cars I've driven.

Nature abhors a vacuum.

I turned "creeping" off, too easy in stalled traffic to forget to keep your foot on the brake, then you're into the car in front. 

I like the fact I don't need to use the remote key, button on the drivers door which unlocks and turns everything on when you enter, and locks and turns off everything when you exit.

Centre mirror has a USB connection for a dashcam.

Doesn't feel or look any cheaper than the other small hatchbacks on the market (Swift, Mazda 2, City, etc).

 

The Slightly annoying,

Carplay is only for wired phone connections and apps, once launched best operated from the phone screen as the 14" touch screen isn't very responsive, but it surprisingly works with Android phones using the Carbitlink app from play store.

Not obvious how to turn cruise control off once you're cruising.

 

The bad,

Windscreen cluttered (like many modern cars).

Very limited view through the rear windscreen, rear passenger seats and headrests are in the way.

Electric adjustable side mirrors don't fold back, everything else electric, but no electric folding mirrors.

 

It beats walking in the rain

Hopefully OP will do well with this car.  Some friends have this car and have been waiting 6 months already for a controller that died. Car sitting in driveway.  I do agree that someone here will eventually figure out repairs.

For anyone else following, if considering a 2nd hand EV, definitely check out MG EP.  I just traded mine after 4 years 107k km.  Flawless vehicle.  Serviced once for 6400 baht at 100k (changed reduction gearbox oil, bled brakes, etc etc.)   Traded at MG dealer for 255,000 baht, can find them around 300-350k baht on One2Car.  Battery literally same as brand new.  Mostly kept it between 40-80%, fast charged maybe 20 times total.

 

I'd have sold to a friend/co-worker in a 2nd for trade-in price, but no one wanted/could afford it.  Ah well, some tent dealer is gonna make easily 80k baht off the deal.

 

SAIC (MG) is the largest and oldest state-owned vehicle manufacturer in China.  Spare parts won't be an issue.

At that price I don't think you can lose, though it could be a PIA at some point (I recently watched someone in the US who bought a newish Fisker EV (bankrupt in 2024) dirt cheap - only a few service support options and parts were hard to come by. Technically his car was illegal to drive and several things werent working properly because the software version had been recalled and he could only get an update done physically over 2 days). 

 

Anyway, good luck with it, personally I think there's a good chance one of the bigger players, possibly Japanese, could buy them.

Nah, resumes after you take your foot off the brake, braking hard does stop cruise but also disconnects the e-pedal. Bit annoying as you need to stop to re-enable the e-pedal.

Manual says up stick to cancel.

 

Went to HTT lake for lunch, very smooth ride, just exploring the "2" setting for regenerative braking, slows down a lot faster when you take your foot off the accelerator. makes me very lazy using the accelerator for accel and brake.

Biggest problem with eletric cars. Brakes rust very quick since they are seldomly used. It mostly brakes by the engine therefore. Remember to use the brakes manually once a week to use caliphers and drum pads.

I rarely touch the brakes on our MG ZS, and have regen on '3', strongest, and love it.  Don't have 1 pedal option.   

 

It's almost self driving if using cruise control, will stop by it self, just have to tap accelerator to continue forward.   Starts out too slow though, even in sport mode.  Fine for city driving, but wouldn't trust it to come to a stop with traffic backed up at traffic light, if we're doing 90 kph on highway.   Fine if traffic in front of us, as simply paces with them.

Not true, the brakes are always used to bring the car to a complete stop, for 5kmhr down to stop approximately.

I wish you a lot of luck , but personally I have trouble following the logic:

 

netaV II    new 299k  - buy a 2 year old one with potential problems and known quality problems from a bankrupt manufacturer for 219 k? 

 

the next guy: 

MG EP  - new 469k  - recommends to buy a 2 year old one for 350k? 

 

Over 300 netas sold in june 2025 after the headquarter closed and removed the company sign.

 

Do westerners adapt to the thai thinking after several years in the country?

Just how many CDU and BC boxes are breaking on cars that are only 2-3 years old for there to be lots of Thais doing this service and why aren't they quickly fixed for free under warranty? 

 

No need to answer. We already know. 

200k I suppose is a bargain I could probably live with not able to service or get parts for that price after a year or two ownership.

 

In my opinion, I’ve looked at many EV brands and models, & I’ve got to say the Neta was the most bland looking interior out of all, as most other EV’s are full of tech, futuristic & fabulous looking inside.
Maybe that’s one reason Neta & the parent company Hozon have filed for bankruptcy 

I'd sell it ASAP. If they go out of business you won't be able to get replacement parts for it. At the very least, it's gonna be a massive hassle to score them.

Chiang Mai Neta showroom now dumping its stock ...... 299kbht for a new car.

 

My misses was totally opposed to buying an EV, but now I can't get her out of it.

It's so quiet and easy to drive, she says.

Clearly you have never owned a Chinese EV, yet you try to pass yourself off as an expert.

 

Based on having owned 3 Chinese EVs here in Thailand my experience has been:

 

Cars built to an extremely high standard 

Very reliable 

Great after sales service

Over The Air Updates continue to improve the cars

Parts delivered within a couple of weeks 

 

If they were rubbish I would have gone back to driving an ICE car not buy 2 more EVs

Yep, my 2nd CN brand car, ICE made in TH, and BEV made in  CN, and seem to be constantly thinking about buying another CN BEV.  That Riddara RD6 keeps pulling at me.   Need some more P/Us here for a price war :cheesy:

 

Also have a CN motorcycle, though possibly assembled part or whole in TH.  Owned all those 2-3-4 yrs, almost and excellent vehicles, still have the the MC and 1 BEV car (made in CN).

There's a big demand for Thais that can fix CDUs for 10-13,000THB according to the OP. This is on cars that are only 1 to 3 years old!

And I repeatedly said it's good deal if he can charge it for free at home, and he gets a few years out of it before it's fit to be scrapped. Hopefully he won't need to pay for the scrapping too. 

 

It's an unreliable (parts repeatedly failing on multiple vehicles) POS that the company don't fix, multiple people having to pay 5 figure amounts to Thai guysto fix the CDU, for one example, and won't actually exist for much longer. Other Chinese EV companies likely to follow. Don't try to put lipstick on a pig.

My issue is with your sweeping generalisations about all Chinese EVs.

Buyers of NETA electric cars have experienced numerous problems after the manufacturer filed for bankruptcy protection. For instance, NETA Auto (Thailand) has been late in the delivery of car registration plates to their customers and in the replacement of conversion and distribution units (CDU) for cars under repair, as well as settlements of claims for compensation during the warranty period of the CDUs, forcing a number of customers to dig into their pockets to buy the kits themselves.

Don't think the warranty is worth anything, not sure I'd trust them with a deposit either. 

It'd have to be cash and drive away with no further expectations.

Not sure about the 'free registration' either.

 

Wouldn't have bought a new one at 299kbht either.

My one at two years old or a 10 year old Suzuki Swift .........

Same price, same guarantee .... none ....

If they get 5 years out of it, before it cannot be used anymore, 1,000 per week isn't bad if they can charge for free at home. 

 

Given that the CDU boxes need repairing almost immediately on many cars, 5 years may be waaayyyyy too optimistic.

Years ago I bought a new Pajero Sport for our business.

 

The dealership was run by 999 Corporation, they lost the Mitsubishi franchise and refused to register lots of customers vehicles.

 

I was part of a class action lawsuit brought by Mitsubishi Thailand for dozens of owners, after 3 years we got our white plates.

 

On the plus side we didn’t have to pay Road Tax for 3 years.

Agree totally! I can't believe people go for these Chinese cars when most Chinese products are so cheaply made and don't last, why would a car be any different. Maybe years down the road--IF the Chinese start changing the way they build things their products might be alright, but for now I'll pass. Similar to the Japanese after WW2, they made cheap tacky goods, but then changed the way they thought about manufacturing  products and turned it around where most people respect and will buy their goods now days. In fact, "made in Japan" is a sign it's going to be a great product....IMO.
