So it was more important for him to travel half way round the world for his own pursuits rather than supporting his wife when she was close to giving birth.

Seems somewhat selfish to me , just my opinion.

Everyone in this world is selfish....

Sometimes generous or philanthropist people just get rid of part of their wealth, knowing very well that cannot take it with them, after....

I don't believe a dedicated father and husband  would be in Thailand pursuing "muay thai" while his wife is 9 months pregnant. I am not buying this tale.

  • This could well be a scam. Note the lack of specific information such as the name of the city he was staying in. Also the classic setting up of a Go Fund Me by a 'concerned friend' of the family.

Sad story... but there's always a Go Fund Me or there's always a book.

This was not a usual drink driving/alcohol death, nobody is forced to give money a go fund me.

At least a go fund me goes to the necessary people rather then charity scams that mostly pay salaries and legal fees

I'll wait for the results.  This guy was pretty young.  Very young.  Curious what infection he got.

A father should 100% have proper insurance and everything else before going to do Muay Thai in Thailand.

His "dream of training".........then the Gofundme.

well, ahhhhh, welll, hmmmmmmm...........

Rather put my money to Texas.

That's a very good point.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Ryan O’Connor, a dedicated father-of-three from Rossendale, Lancashire, has died in Thailand while pursuing his dream of training in Muay Thai. His tragic passing came just days before his wife, Joanne, welcomed their third child, a daughter named Maya Jasmine, in the UK.

Ryan, aged 30, embarked on his trip on 29 May, determined to fulfil a lifelong ambition before expanding his family. Sadly, his journey was cut short when he fell gravely ill at a hotel in Thailand. Despite being placed on life support, he succumbed to his illness on 28 June, not long before his 31st birthday.

Joanne, a mathematics teacher, faced the bittersweet occasion of her daughter's birth on Monday, surrounded by loved ones yet acutely aware of her husband's absence. Ryan's brother, Liam, expressed, “Ryan wanted to achieve this dream before having two children. It was something he was passionate about.”

During his stay in Thailand, Ryan developed severe symptoms, including violent diarrhoea, hinting at a possible infection. On 26 June, he made a final video call to his parents, detailing his condition. Alarmed, his father contacted the hotel, urging them to seek medical assistance.

Paramedics found Ryan collapsed and in cardiac arrest. After reviving him, they placed him on life support. Tragically, his condition deteriorated, leading to septic shock and his eventual passing.

Ryan was remembered fondly by Liam, who described him as “loud, funny, and my best friend.” In the aftermath, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help Joanne and her children, including toddler Riley, cope with this life-altering loss.

The fundraiser aims to cover essential costs like repatriating Ryan’s remains, medical expenses, and providing long-term support for the grieving family. Liam implored the public, “Ryan was a fantastic dad and husband. His warmth and humour touched many lives. We urge you to support Joanne and the children during this difficult period.”

Donations to support the O'Connor family can be made through their GoFundMe page, helping them navigate the challenges ahead.

The risk is well known. Obviously warnings didn't work for him. Karma.

Was it from food or from the muay thai training would be something worthwhile to include

Salmona Thyfoid probably I've had it twice here and knocked me out for a few months very hard to get rid of and will kill without proper treatment

Just watch how some vendors use the same towel to wipe hands and chopping blocks covered with raw chicken, fish etc

Be careful where you eat there is virtually no hygiene standards here

A bad food could be the reason. I was almost dead 2 times by bad foods. A bad food could be the killer.

Terrible story … but why would a father of 2 and another imminent birth be travelling to follow his dream …hard to believe the level of selfishness … poor kids are now left without a father … RIP

It gets more GoFundMe contributions if he is made out to be a Saint.

I'm thinking there is more to this story than this.  Healthy 30 year olds don't generally die of sepsis unless their immune system is already compromised.  Strange story.  Somehow the blame will fall on Thailand, but given the lack of detail in the article, this could just as well have happened in the UK after eating e.coli infected lettuce.  Which brings me back to wondering what isn't being discussed in the article.  As I said, healthy 30 year olds don't generally die of sepsis unless their immune system is already compromised.

Well, tragic.  RIP.  I hope the best for his wife and kids.  That truly sucks.

Vaxxed. At least he did not die of COVID.

He was urged to get medical care but sounds like he didn't? Send someone down to the drug store? Why didn't he go to a hospital or clinic? Too many dodgy bits to my liking..

Yes seems strange a family man wanting to come to Thailand and practice Muay Thai and his wife agreeing don't worry about the cost you enjoy yourself there

Where are you going well to that well World  renowned Tourist resort of Pattaya known for its Temples and beaches ⛱️ 🤫

So there really are racially mixed couples in the world.  I thought they were only in commercials or on TV.

I'm part of a racially mixed couple, as is nearly every white guy I know in Thailand.

Yea, I thought about adding 'except expats in TH' to that post.  Or expats worldwide even.

So, you warming up to the Neta ?   2 BEVs now, who would have thought :coffee1:

What next, a DECO to round out the 'Holy Trio' :cheesy:

You can get a new one, cheaper than your ebike (<30k), that's mind boggling in itself.

I find it difficult to believe he could not find a muay Thai gym near his home. There are a few in Lancashire. Yes, Thailand is the home of Muay Thai but there are great practitioners all over the world so why leave his wife to give birth alone?

They want to live the dream of being able to say they live in the boxing camp and lived like a local while training everyday, something like that, and learn to speak Thai,

So he just thought he'd <deleted> off to Thailand when the baby is due? Selfish to me,

Tragedy Strikes: UK Man Passes in Thailand, Baby Born Days Later .

Tragic for sure But where's the Travel Insurance.

Here we go Again with the Go Fund Me Cry.

Have the money for the Muay Thai Training but not for a simple Travel Insurance.

Should've stayed at home  Working and be with his Family.

You got to tell the wife & family something, or they wouldn't let you come and have fun in the sun.

My coworkers used to tell their wives, they go the TH for the tailor made suits, and come back with one.  Funny they needed a new suit every 3 to 6 months :coffee1:

Yet at work, the rarely talked about the suit, when rehashing their holiday 🙄

Exactly. Why are you in thailand when your wife is about to birth your child

its standard behaviour amongst certain "communities" for the biological  father to disappear just before the birth leaving the mother to raise the offspring alone. Occasionally receiving assistance later  from   various temporary sexual partners.

When reading the above imagine it being recited in David Attenborough's voice
