2nd Bank Account?

I wonder whether banks would have a problem to just open a second savings account.

Should not be a problem.

However current situation with banking is fluid.

As for the FD account + savings account with same bank No problem.

Yes, I have 3 bank accounts , one is never touched ,just for Visa extensions, thats the way to go.     regards worgeordie

  • It's a very good idea and indeed many folk have a "dedicated immigration account"  What you need to be careful of is moving the funds from existing account to new account.  Suggest you leave

  • We are farang meaning bottom of biscuit barrel.  In any event for those dealing with CW for extensions, the bank Letter and Bank Statement can be obtained in days prior to day of application (up

Edit: unrelated, however for others not that if you use two accounts for immigration and decide to close one account.

That's fine but don't let the bank keep the closed account bank book.

With the sometimes relative difficulty of opening Thai banks accounts who in their right mind would ever choose to close an operating account?

No issue as long as you meet the current requirements of the bank for new accounts.

This is exactly what I do. Leave my 800000 in my Krungsri account and use my Kasikorn for my weekly business. I also use my Kasikorn to transfer my 50K plus every month from UK as my Krungsri account won’t allow more than 50k and Kasikorn does. It works very well and is far simpler come annual visa time.

I'm in my right mind and opted to close my FD account with Kasikorn.

Also have another savings account with another bank + savings account with Kasikorn.

Fixed deposit account still allows to withdraw from the balance anytime just loosing future interest payment.

That is a condition to be accepted by immigration.

Fixed deposit has no card, no transaction via internet. Lowest risk.

And a tad more interest. Not much these days with the low rates but it's a good night out. And no photocopying multiple pages of your passbook.

This is true for extensions retirement using funds in bank method however not of use to income method where there is often minimal balance maintained.

That's exactly what I do.

I have my visa money parked in a Krungsri time deposit, that remains untouched. My Kasikorn account is the one I use for regular spending.

Doing the same but krungsri app is a pain, going in today to see if they can transfer to new phone, last time it took them over 2 hours. K bank next week to open another account. If you open an account here these days do the tax people in the UK get notified?

I asked Bangkok Bank (two years ago) if I could do this and they said no.

I had a savings a/c with with BKK before I opened  my additional FD a/c for the 800,000!

I still have both!

This may have been asked but what is the recommended 2nd Bank, I have BKK at present-see above, to have wrt Wise UK/Thailand transfers.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. My main account with the visa money is in Bangkok Bank and I never touch it. Right now for "scan" I use my wife's Bangkok Bank account that is on the app on my phone. I keep hearing how the app is being disabled for people with a SIM card that doesn't match the name of the account they use, so I want a second account for the day-to-day stuff.

Kasikorn?

Note that Kasikorn just has put a brake on Mobile Banking for Foreigners with a daily spending Limit of 50K THB and ATM 20K THB.

Op.

If your going to get a second account get one at a different name bank

whilst you still can.

Don't keep all your eggs in one basket.

Yeah I checked it out.

Small branch in a shopping mall.

One good review (2 weeks old) USA guy opened an account. Married to a Thai.

Went during the week and had to return following Sat.

Mentioned the issue with BBL which does not apply at Kasikorn.

In hindsight a much bigger branch like the ones you find in eg Sukhumvit would have been better option.

Hi all

I have my 1 year extension already. I'm now thinking about my next extension in a ~years time, and the proof I'll need of my bank account status . In one years time i can imagine the amount of transactions that will occur in my account will be huge, and will create a lot of paperwork etc.

I'm thinking of opening another (2nd) bank account, that i can use for my day to day transactions.

So that when i reapply for extension, my main account with the 800,000 baht only has a few transactions making reproducing the statements easy.

Main account is Krungsri, I'm thinking my 2nd will be K-Bank

Is this a good idea? Any issues?

Thanks

Yes.  I have had at least 2 accounts for over 10 years. I learned the lesson when we were on holiday on an island resort and I tried to take money out of the resort's ATM when we arrived - it went all haywire and the bank account was frozen - they said in call centre that I had to go back to the branch office I opened the account with ID Passport etc. The second bank account was used for that entire holiday - luckily there was enough money in it - I only use ATMS in Banks and big Malls now.

It's a figure of speech and was not directed at, nor denigrating anyone, it was an accurate observation about the difficulty of opening new savings accounts in Thailand for foreigners.

Absolutely nothing to do with my post.

I pointed out that anyone who closes a bank account make sure to keep the cancelled bank book.

Nothing to do with opening a new bank account.

Oh yeah you're right, i hate that branch at emquartier.

I stay at Asoke, so tomorrow I'll wander down Sukumvit tomorrow. I recall seeing at least one branch somewhere down there

Just amended my Kasikorn limits on the app to B100k for withdrawals (daily), B500k spending limit and B100k transfer limit.

Missus spoke with our local BKK Bank today, and they said that the B400k or B800k 4 month rule is (or very soon will be) all banks, as directed by the BoT. Not just BKK Bank

No. Immigration will look back to date of extension for compliance.

In fact can look back to 2 months prior to last application for extension.

For years I had the 800K in a krungsri account permanently, and used that account for my extension

My last extension was in March.

In June this year I removed most of the money in that account because of the poor interest they pay.

I have an account with SCB that hasn't been below 800K for several years, so can I next extension just use that account?
