In Thailand: What are your plans when Nuclear War happens?

Dear Folks,

I just want to ask you about your plans when nuclear war happens.

Do you have a plan?

Also, how do we live with this angst and this leftover from the Age of Anxiety caused by the nuclear age of the 1960s?  We can’t live with it unless we can also be in denial of it.

But this is not about the philosophy of MAD, and I am only asking about your personal plans when you, one-day soon, hear on your radio, or TikTok, that nuclear warheads have begun flying and then blasting all major cities in the west.

Thankfully, we are here in Thailand, and so we will have more time to evacuate.

Evacuation will be key for our survival, of course.

There is always Pitcairn Island, which is one that is high on my list.

But, what about you…..?

When you get the first signal that the nukes are raining down in the west, then what might be your plan?

Will you stockpile rice, for example?

Some say that nuclear war will never happen.

But, are you one of these who has no understanding of probability theory?

So, we know that this will happen, and that it is just a question of statistical math, and some unknown period of time.

The question posed in this topic is:  What will you do when you first get the word?

This is a very hard question.

I don’t even know what I might do.

Do you?

Best regards,

Gamma

Please Note:  Pitcairn Island.....

A beautiful place, but still, one might not wish to live there....FOREVER...just guessing.....

Just remember the true story about the man living in England in the late 1930s and he could see that there was going to be a major war starting soon. So he searched the maps of the world to find the safest place to hide out until the war was over. He decided an island would be safest, one far away from Europe and Britain, and on an island he would be self sufficient, he could live on fish and seafoods, and local fruit and vegetables. So he carefully considered everything and made his selection. Then in August 1939, just a couple of weeks before the outbreak of WW2, this man left England for a small remote island in the South Pacific called Guadalcanal.

Never easy to predict the future, then or now.

Ah!.....I remember Musical Youth

Why should I bother about things that I can't change? I live my life and enjoy simple things until the day comes when I have to leave. To make plans that I might live longer in case of whatever is a waste of time - my oppinion.

The chance of being somewhere at the wrong time and wrong place happens every day hundred thousands of times on this planet.

Oh, I can't cross the street, a car might hit me. Don't walk under the coconut tree - you might be hit deadly from a falling coconut etc.pp...

Enjoy your life as long as possible - and no need to worry about things and making plans because of a nuclear hit - or fallout.

If you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time, that’s just misfortune, but if you are in the wrong place at the right time you’ve really missed out.

Fine book, mediocre movie.

On the Beach

Nevil Shute

After a nuclear World War III has destroyed most of the globe, the few remaining survivors in southern Australia await the radioactive cloud that is heading their way and bringing certain death to everyone in its path. Among them is an American submarine captain struggling to resist the knowledge that his wife and children in the United States must be dead. Then a faint Morse code signal is picked up, transmitting from somewhere near Seattle, and Captain Towers must lead his submarine crew on a bleak tour of the ruined world in a desperate search for signs of life. On the Beach is a remarkably convincing portrait of how ordinary people might face the most unimaginable nightmare.

If there isn't a nuclear war before November I'll drop any plans I have made because we will be invaded by aliens.

Meanwhile I'll enjoy my dinner tonight, my day tomorrow and the next day and so on.

I hope when they probe my anus they use lubrication.

Don't believe the hype......even Kim isn't suicidal let alone Putin and Trump would be to worried about his golf courses to do anything over and above his normal stupidity.  What's wrong with you? Do you sit for hours thinking 'what if' as if you had some sort of control over your life?

same as my plans for the next ice age, a massive asteroid hit, alien invasion, and the sun exploding.

If it happens, I hope to be at ground zero as the world as we know it will slowly cease to exist. It will set off a chain of nukes that will affect every place on earth. I’d prefer not to suffer.

What likely will happen is worse pandemics than the last one, and economic collapse turmoil, with world order shifts.

You reckon the powers that be will roll out the Black Death for another crack at population control ?

Oh dear the sixties are back, thank you very much but already lived it once, didn't enjoy it much so yes stick it where sun don't shine

The more the numbers of countries  owning atomic bombs increases the greater the risk of a nuclear war. No plans. As a kid in WW2 I remember descending into bomb shelters a couple of times. I doubt they would protect against a nuclear fallout unless heavily insulated and provisioned.

hope that i can find a heroin dealer and purchase some so i can choose the time and place i say seeya-bi

Not if China is hit... 😆

Radiation and fallout will probably reach Thailand relatively quickly.

No less than a nuclear war between Pakistan and India, India and China, China and the USA, Iran and Israel, North Korea and Whomever, Russia and Everyone.

Sometimes I think worldwide nuclear weapons proliferation might actually be a deterrent. It would be like a chess board with pawns only.

He he Will do nothing ,Too old to run Am just able to walk now.

Have to get some ops on my knees first than still not running.

Farang Fink too Mutt !!    I'm 80; best of my life has passed, whatever <deleted> happens will happen and nowt i can do to stop it !

Generally you won't have time.  The key cities and targets, wind direction, road congestion or destruction are All factors beyond our control.

Thailand doesn't want to escalate any conflict unless provoked.  That said Thailand wants to make a deal and work through the differences.

Lastly I don't think Thailand has or will need a missile defense system.

Yes, my bet is on China vs. U.S. and allies, once the PRC attempts to invade Taiwan, and dominate the western Pacific...

Back around 1976 when I was in the Air Force we had a breifing about nuclear war.  They stated if there was a full out nuclear war no would be living on the surface of the planet for about 200 years.

Any way if countries start launching their ICBMs you will only have about 30 minutes to do anything.  That's assuming you know about it right when it starts.

We're all going to die sometime.  The world will cease to exist at some point.  There is no use worrying about it.

Aah I would be renting a bed in the Vietnam tunnels

Toilet paper usually runs out first - but we have bum guns ...actually there's no need to worry because : we know that supplies will have to start flowing again soon - what else is there to do?
