A school transport bus overturned on the evening of 7 August, leaving two students dead and dozens more injured in a devastating crash that sent shockwaves through local communities in Bueng Kan.

The crash occurred around 17:00 on the Se Ka–Na Thom road, near the Huai Do canal bridge in Se Ka district of Bueng Kan province. The bus driver, which was transporting students home from school, lost control and overturned, trapping many of its passengers inside.

Emergency responders from Thepparak Rescue Service quickly arrived on the scene to assist with the evacuation and rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, including Na Thom Hospital and Se Ka Hospital.

According to initial reports from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Nakhon Phanom province, the bus was transporting students from Na Thom district in Nakhon Phanom to their school in Se Ka district, Bueng Kan. The crash took place just two kilometres from Na Thom.

Authorities have confirmed that two students, one male and one female, died at the scene after being crushed by the overturned vehicle. Numerous other students sustained injuries, some of them serious, though exact numbers have yet to be confirmed.

Police officers from Se Ka Police Station are investigating the cause of the crash. Early indications suggest that the bus may have lost traction while crossing the bridge, but a full investigation is ongoing to determine the precise cause.

This is incredibly sad and unacceptable.  The number of bus crashes in Thailand is extremely high.  Something has to be done about that.  I would love to know how many bus crashes a year there are in Thailand.  There should be less than 3 if the correct precautions were in place.

"the bus may have lost traction while crossing the bridge",  AkA, the driver was going too fast for the conditions.  This could have easily been avoided.

Imagine you are awaiting for your child to return from school and you get the call.  Devastating.
