BANGKOK - Pathum Thani's top cop has been ousted following a major raid on a Rangsit nightclub that saw nearly 200 patrons test positive for drugs. The bust, which took place in the early hours of August 8, was part of a zero-tolerance operation targeting unauthorised venues that serve alcohol past their legal hours. Of the patrons tested, a staggering 179 showed positive for drugs, and 7 were underage.

The raid also prompted the reassignment of the District Chief of Thanyaburi to an administrative role, as authorities aim to uphold public confidence and conduct a thorough investigation.

The operation, led by special units from the Department of Provincial Administration, focused on a club in Soi Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok 21, resulting in several arrests. The suspects have been handed over to local police for further legal proceedings.

High-ranking police officials, including Police Major General Yuttana Jankhun, have been reassigned, with Police Major General Chayanon Misati stepping in as acting commander of Pathum Thani Provincial Police.

This reshuffle includes the suspension of several officers from their current roles to aid in a comprehensive investigation. They will report to the Provincial Police Region 1 for temporary duties.

The crackdown comes amid rising concerns over nightlife venues operating outside of legal boundaries. Authorities emphasise the need for stringent checks and compliance with the law to prevent such situations, according to Siam Rath.

The reassignment of key police officials is intended to ensure an unimpeded investigation, with results expected in seven days.

We urge the police to maintain rigorous enforcement of laws surrounding nightlife establishments as the situation settles. The temporary appointments and ongoing probe aim to restore order and ensure compliance with regulations.

They think changing the police in the area will make a difference 🙄😂

It will just redirect the pay offs to someone else's pockets! That's how the system works and no one beats the system, RTP makes sure of that.

I'm not too bothered about the serving after hours bit, as long as they're not bothering the local population...

What does worry me is the extent of drug use.

They should be picking up trash in public parks, and not sitting around in a/c office playing on the phone.

Sack half the police and double the salaries of the ones that are left.

This was done deliberately to get that one individual. Maybe he wasn’t doing a good job sharing out the little brown envelopes.

Nothing will happen as the corrupt thai police force own most of the bars/clubs in the first place 🤷🏼

Opposite tukcom and outside friendship. We’re 4 police trucks with half a dozen police, evenings around 8pm. I often eat further up at the vegetarian restaurant, I never saw them stop one car or motorbike in the few days they were there. What were they doing ?

So many super cops catching bad cop villains. It is like musical chairs.
