August 13, 2025Aug 13 yeah, take your chances and keep boozing daily like it's 1999. even 65 sounds old. damage might be undoable.
August 13, 2025Aug 13 Popular Post Research fund by alcohol producers. 65 ... does anyone believe that Then you are obviously there already. My life expectancy was only 67. Was never an Alky. Weekend warrior, then monthly warrior / light sipper. Last 10 years a couple a month, and last 8, almost none existent. Now, can't remember last time I drank a beer ... oh crap 🍻
August 13, 2025Aug 13 Popular Post My grandad drank like a fish. He lived to 113. I am nearly 80 and enjoy a few glasses of wine every night

August 13, 2025Aug 13 Some things affect some and not others, but in general too much of most anything will cause problems eventually. My good friend, same age as me, now has Dementia. He is a daily drinker, to get drunk, and has been all his adult life. His parents were alcoholics and mom died from complications brought on by it. He hit his head a couple of years ago, after drinking, and this along with ARBD , led to his having Dementia.

I'm 80 yo and I drastically reduced my beer intake over the years but I still drink 1-2 large bottles of Chang every night. I walk 90 minutes every day and I sleep well. The best thing I ever did was to stop smoking just on 50 years ago, I even ran 3 marathons when I was 45.

Smoking is the worse thing you can do to your health. Drinking too much also. Some get away with abusing their health and many don't. Life's too short to shorten it by doing unhealthy things.
August 18, 2025Aug 18 The damage one does to their body is cumulative. Doesn't need any study to know that. Just quitting smoking does not mean that you won't get lung cancer or emphysema years later, nor does quitting drink keep you from already having cirrhosis or other health problems. Moderation over time does help of course. So does genetics. So does a bit of luck.

August 18, 2025Aug 18 My old grand mother drank a bottle of milk stout everyday and she lived well into her 90's, Im 75 now and I have stopped drinking and smoking, and only drink de-caf coffee only once a day, maybe have a glass of red wine once a month as I did last night, I might have to stop that as I had pains in my chest I had to take a tablet, not sure if I eaten too much or the red wine,

The fact that people in the blue zones always live the longest on average proves a healthy food and drink lifestyle is most of it.

August 18, 2025Aug 18 Now 83 gave up drinking beer, wine and spirits about 10 years ago, not for health reasons, just began to no longer enjoy it. So far, so good.

I still enjoy red wine, Gin & tonics, some Chang beer occasionally and my fruit infused liqueurs that I've prepared. I have a drink when I feel like it. I drink in moderation. Why not? I've worked all my life. I'm still fit and healthy. I walk and exercise daily. I don't smoke - since my early 20s. I don't do drugs - I don't need them. I eat reasonably healthily - Thai and western food But most importantly - I'm not a worrier!
August 18, 2025Aug 18 Whilst alcohol doesn't directly trigger dementia, excessive drinking has been proven to increase a person's chances of developing the condition, according to Dementia UK. Must be only for the UK people . 😜

August 18, 2025Aug 18 This thread has quite a few people with statistical samples of one, to prove alcohol consumption is not harmful. Japanese males are not noted for being heavy drinkers. Their average life expectancy is 81 years. The tax department has campaigns to encourage alcohol consumption, due to declining revenue. Russian males are extremely heavy drinkers. Their average life expectancy is 65 years. The Russian government has repeatedly campaigned to reduce alcohol consumption. QED.

She started in her late 70ies when we started to suspect it. It’s in the genes, but for sure alchohol doesnt help much either to make it better
