Featured Replies

Sick of all the <deleted> geckos leave inside the house, anyone had success in getting rid of geckos and if so what product did you use.

  • Spray the buggers with a good cockroach spray, that will knock them down, when whack the buggers. They are hard to catch and kill. Or put down those sticky mouse traps where they run along.

I just let them have free roam of the flat.  they eat the mozzies etc, and in return, I  don’t charge them rent.

There is no perfect solution but two ways to have less of them. First of all there is a lizard repellent spray available at Homepro and supermarkets . You are supposed to spray it at places Geckos like to sit. The smell will result in lizards avoiding the sprayed areas.

The other way is to prevent them from coming in through gaps at sliding windows and doors. It sounds funny but it really is a good solution, just spray WD 40 around all the gaps from the outside and inside of the house. Geckos do not like the smell and will avoid contact. Just spray the window frames with it.

I have no problem with a few of them as they eat bugs, some of which bite and sting. It's hard to keep them out unless your house is very well sealed, which doesn't happen a lot here, especially with sliding doors and windows. If there aren't any bugs inside, they won't come in.

My 4 dogs enthusiastically bark at them.

Doesn't work!

Have used the sticky mouse traps, at first it worked well, but they are smart, they learnt to avoid them. Used cockroach spray as well, but need half a can just on one, thrown my shoe but am a lousy shot.

will try both, thanks

Turn the outside lights off at night. The geckos are hunting insects attracted to the light.

Get a cat

The only thing with more than 2 legs that is getting through my defenses is my sausage dog and its his job to reinforce my scorched earth policy without mercy🤔

Make it known to them you don't want them there, chase them out, eventually they stop coming, they must leave a note for each other, worked for me.

Plus don't leave any food, crumbs, open bins, etc

You should cherish wildlife.

Do they come in having somehow determined there is food inside, or do they happen to wander in and hang around if they find a food supply?

I don't like having to clean up their faeces.

We leave them be........I assume they are helping by turning a variety of unpleasant bugs into little dry droppings.....

They know. It's a choice you make. if you don't have a very sealed house, they'll get in because the bugs come in the same ways. You can be the cleanest person alive but there's food in the house bugs will smell and they'll be there, at the least the small ants. . Either you kill the geckos or leave them alone to kill the bugs and just clean up the little poops they leave. A cat will take out the geckos and certain insects, along with any vermin that get in.

Yeah, we always have ants patrolling. It taught me to keep food in cupboards well wrapped (I wonder if that's why there is so much packing on snack food). Even if I was a builder, I doubt I could get the house hermetically sealed.

A few mothballs here and there, mostly above the ceiling, did it for us.

I spray them with bug spray which slows them down.  Then, smash the hell out of them with a golf club.

The 'gecko' spray does work well.  Seems to stun them and then they're easy to catch.  However, I try to rehabilitate them...

Sticky traps are inhumane.

I'm guessing they can smell the food from outside?

Anyway, I haven't seen a gecko in my place for a couple months now.

The trick which I think worked is I use very small garbage bags which I keep in the fridge.

I don't keep any garbage out, so there is little smell that attracts them. Or even if they pop in, they must immediately pop out realizing there is no food anywhere.

This trick seems to have worked for me.

My wife could remember how her mother did it. And we did it in our house. Hardly NO little friends any more inside the house: Buy some wooden ones from Lazada, ca. 20-30 cm long with coloured spots. And glue them on to the walls. Looks nice and it works.

Spray them with a water hose and push them in the grass, they are terrified of being in the grass and they won’t return. Do it while cleaning outside about once a week or so hosing the house walls and places where they hide, it really does work.

They are not interested in people food, they are only interested in live insects, so if you leave food out it attracts fruit flies and the little critters will sit there chomping on bugs and crap right there on your leftovers for you to eat during your morning fog.

Get a cat

Yup, this year, a very young cat came in the house and of course the wife liked it very much.

ANd the cat is hunting now on everything including the gecko's, even eats them.

Yes the cat gets food, but gecko's are appetizers and fun to play with.

Her name is screamer, as she screams a lot and  also when gecko is too far away, She is frustrated then.

If she could run up the wall, she would do so to catch it.
