Thai Airways is making waves in the airline industry by transforming its in-flight meals into rich cultural experiences. The "Good Taste for a Good Cause" initiative is a celebration of Thailand's culinary heritage while offering support to local farmers, artisans, and community enterprises.

At the heart of this initiative is the "Streets to Sky" programme, now in its second season. This project brings Thailand's beloved street food to passengers, showcasing legendary culinary creations perfected over generations.

Bangkok’s renowned Thipsamai, famous since 1939 for its Pad Thai, now offers passengers a taste of its famous Sen-Chan noodles wrapped in an egg with shrimp oil. Rod Dee Det contributes with its classic chicken gravy over rice, and Jay Fai, Thailand’s only Michelin-starred street food chef, provides an exclusive stir-fried noodle and seafood dish for Thai Airways.

Passengers can also savour Phuket's Michelin-recognised Khrua Jongjit Hokkien noodles, the popular Seua Kuay Teow Ped’s duck noodles, and Iron Chef Tukta’s traditional Chu Chee fish curry.

The airline's commitment extends beyond food with a focus on sustainable coffee and snacks. Partnering with DoiTung, a social enterprise in Northern Thailand, Thai Airways supports local highland communities by offering speciality-grade coffee. All passengers can enjoy the Royal Highland Single Origin coffee, while the Black Silk Blend, crafted specifically for brewing at altitude, is available in Royal Silk and Business classes.

Additionally, passengers can indulge in rice crackers made from premium jasmine, sticky, and white rice sourced from regions like Buriram, Chiang Rai, and Pathum Thani. Flavours range from Garlic & Pepper to Wasabi, Sauerkraut, and Parmesan Cheese.

A representative from Thai Airways noted, "Thai Airways has evolved beyond premium transportation to become a global ambassador of Thai culture. Our initiatives highlight authentic Thai flavours and simultaneously create economic opportunities for communities throughout the country.”

Through this innovative approach, Thai Airways redefines the travel experience by blending cultural heritage, sustainability, and social impact. The airline not only stands as a flag carrier but also serves as a bridge, sharing Thailand's iconic street food culture with the world, far beyond the bustling streets of Bangkok.

Very "iconic Thai".

When I flew with them earlier this year the business class food was dire.  Let's hope this is an improvement.

I'll wager the OJ will still be the best part of the meal. :coffee1:

Flew beginning of June, Business Class, BKK-LHR-BKK and the food was excellent. Could not fault at all combined with superb onboard service.

Hope they’ll be serving somtam.

I've avoided Thai Air for years after their non competitive prices, serious slip in standards and ancient planes drove me away.

If they could actually deliver on their lofty claims I'd be happy to support them again.

With more negative reports than positive of late, it seems to be just kanom in the sky.

The wife makes it with sakopian, the big black one’s. It’s a hideous sight.

Like Thai Airways but the food is  changeable. Flew couple long haul returns last year and found this flight completely different to the next. Food was just so bad, most people pushing it aside. When they try western fare, it can go very wrong, but good when they stick to Thai food, so this is good news. Perhaps they’ll also do something about domestic. I mean just hand out a bag of pretzels and water rather than that horrible sugary thing. What’s the point?

Rice crackers! I can hardly contain my excitement. But it looks like I will have to upgrade to Business Class........

And durian for dessert.

Airplane food is worse than hospital food.

The daily advertorial about Thai Airways has become tiresome.

Not on long haul flights. For obvious reasons. 🤷🏼🤣

I had the Thipsamai pad Thai on a recent flight to Vietnam, and chicken with basil on the return flight. Neither was a gourmet meal, but both were tasty enough as a snack on an hour-long journey.

The meals are still way below the quality of 25 years ago, but much, much better than the tiny rice boxes they were serving just before Covid.

Where is the Iconic Thai Cuisine "Full English Breakfast"?

That would go down well on the BKK-LHR route.

Same for me in March (BKK-LHR-BKK) and April (BKK-LHR) this year. Very good. Can depend on the crew on the day though. No complaints.

The worst airline food award goes to those flying out of communist china

Pad Thai, very tasty cheap meal, probably got Khao Man Gai  on the menu also 😊

😊

I reckon we will see a few negative comments from the KFC and pizza eaters 😂

Of course, but it would be quite an event for the AN news cycle.

The research shows being in the air dulls the taste buds so they need more flavour and spice!
