An 81-year-old British man has appealed to police in after his much-loved motorcycle with sidecar, was stolen in broad daylight.

The theft occurred on 30 August in Udon Thani’s Muang district, where CCTV cameras captured two men stealing the vehicle in less than two minutes.

The victim, identified only as Wayne, reported the incident to Muang Udon Thani Police Station on 2 September with the assistance of a translator. The stolen vehicle is described as blue and bronze with white seats, valued at around 27,000 baht. Despite being second-hand, Wayne had maintained it in excellent condition with the help of close Thai friends.

Wayne, a former restaurant owner from Liverpool who has lived in Thailand for about a decade, explained that he had parked the vehicle outside his home in Dong Udom, Nong Bua subdistrict, for the past month.

Footage from a nearby curtain shop shows two men, aged about 25–30, arriving on a white motorcycle with no licence plate. One pushed the vehicle clear before climbing aboard to steer, while the driver used his foot to propel it along the road. The pair were last seen heading towards the Santaphon College intersection.

“I’m very sad about losing my vehicle because I loved it so much,” Wayne said. “I enjoyed driving around Udon Thani in my free time, just to feel the breeze and see the city. I hope the police can catch the thieves and bring back my beloved bike.”

Wayne, who works locally as a translator for a law firm, added that while he is grateful for police assistance, he does not wish to meet the suspects if they are caught, admitting with a wry smile that his Muay Thai and boxing skills might get the better of him.

Police investigators are continuing their efforts to track down the suspects and recover the stolen vehicle.

whenever you own something, assume someone might steal it from you.

And there it was gone! I know how he feels. I had my combination stolen in London way back in 1960. I wanted to take my three children to see their grandmother on Mother's Day. Looked out of the window and yep. There it was gone. The bastards!

Why would a translator need a translator unless of course the law firm he works for doesn't need Thai translated!

Is that in the direction of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar or Malaysia?

I wish the guy good luck getting it back.

On an aside, do Airtags (or equivalents) work well in LOS?

Rubbish. Nothing is an 'invitation to theft'. Theft remains a criminal offense as far as I recall.

Many expat snowbirds leave vehicles for long periods of time without any issues. Sensible parking is obviously a prerequisite.

One thing or sure the thieves weren't fellow Scousers they left the grass 🤔
