The only issue I see is size. Quite small. But that has advantages. You can just take this house with you when you move. Incredible. A small car can tow it.

So Musk's prefab home is now on release. For 7800 USD you can have a home with bells and whistles like solar power, windows that go opaque on demand and other cool stuff.. The size is basically similar to the shoebox apartments most expats in BKK live in.

If he can make a modular home that increases the size, Musk has solved the housing crisis worldwide with one incredible product.

Time to celebrate Musk and his Tesla housing team?

You think homeless individuals have access to 7800 USD?

Even still, seems like a good product.

The homeless do not, however, families who cannot afford to pay 380,000, 680,000 or 800,000 USD for a new home in the area where they want to live, may have access to 7800 USD.

Clearly the big problem has been the huge inflation of house prices for first time buyers. Now, if they can buy a home for 7800 USD, this could provide an adequate home for a single person, a couple and even a couple with 1 kid.

So the housing crisis, ie inflationary prices for real estate, could be solved now.

How about this idea. Cities stop spending money on illegal immigrants and buy heaps of these.

I guess one of the probelms is that these houses will be seen as the "cheap" option. So they will have little cachet and desirability, despite being very well designed. Incredibly well designed actually.

But if someone says his house is worth 7800 USD, that will then mark them out as person who has little money.

So it's a hard sell in terms of desirability, also because they're small. But in terms of pound for pound value, it's incredible.

It's obviously a great product.

Didn't mean to be completely negative, just guarded.

Let's wait and see what happens.

do you remember the ballyhoo the accompanied the introduction of the Segway scooter?

Transportation problems in cities were solved etc.

Don't get our hopes up with your headline.

I thought he may have shot Trumpety Trump   555555

I saw somewhere that a company in UK is making concrete pre-fabs a la 60s. Why not get the illegals to work in that factory and on the proposed sites, and then let them live in it until deportation.

I disagree with just about everything you post. This is an exception. The state of Utah learned that it's cheaper to provide minimal housing and provide drug/alcohol rehab than it is to jail them. It's also the right thing to do.

Tiny homes have existed for many years.

This one maybe has some new features.

But the problem is you need to live in a very remote area - no schools, no restaurants, no bars, no nothing except maybe some bears.

These homes are not feasible for dense urban areas.

Although you make fun of "shoebox apartments", it's more feasible to live in a small condo in an densely populated area as there is plenty of stuff to do within walking distance.

People have big houses in the suburbs, but then you need to drive an hour to get anywhere.

Small apartments are more feasible for dense urban area living.

Unless they start building entire communities with these tiny homes, they're not feasible. And you still need to buy land to own this thing. Land is not cheap, unless you are in the middle of nowhere.

In desirable places the land is most of the expensive. You need space and infrastructure hookups. But low cost structures from Musk or anybody are good but they will not be welcome in most neighborhoods.

I've been reading about TESLA's <$10,000 tiny home for years.

Yes. Because, as far as I know, this is NOT a Tesla product.

There seems to be at least one other company using the Tesla name.

How and why, I am not sure.

Tesla Homes LLC ?

They appear to have zero involvement with Musk.

Re-inventing the wheel(ed)- trailer home?

Apparently some innovative features incorporated but realistically just candidates for trailer parks in end result.
