An unidentified foreign man was left critically injured after jumping from a pedestrian footbridge on Sri Ayutthaya Road in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district on 29 September. The incident, which occurred in front of the Sri Ayutthaya building near the Phaya Thai intersection, caused significant disruption to traffic and prompted an urgent response from police and rescue services.

Police at Phaya Thai station received reports in the afternoon that an unidentified foreign man appeared intent on leaping from the bridge. Rescue teams from Phaya Thai Fire and Rescue Station, Bantadthong volunteers and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation arrived with air cushions to prevent injury. The man, believed to be between 55 and 60 years old, was shirtless and wearing only elephant-patterned trousers, with socks.

While officers attempted to calm him down, the man suddenly jumped at 15.43, hitting head first onto the road surface. He lost consciousness and sustained severe head injuries. Rescue volunteers performed CPR before rushing him to Phyathai 1 Hospital, where emergency surgery was carried out.

At the scene, police found the man’s grey T-shirt and white sandals left on the bridge, which were collected. Officers confirmed that no identification documents were found on him. Investigators learned that the man had been acting erratically in the area earlier in the afternoon. Motorcycle taxi drivers and passers-by alerted police before the situation escalated. Authorities are now working to confirm his identity and determine the cause of his behaviour.

Next time do it off a balcony, it’s more effective.

Compassion? Did somebody make him jump?

There can be a few different reasons:

  • He is just unstable to mentally ill, and in that case should had stayed home and get treatment.
  • Money problem in Thailand, which means he have no ordered economy and just took a chance in a foreign country and couldn´t hack it.
  • Didn't get his visa renewed and couldn´t hack it.
  • Found out his girlfriend was cheating or broken relationship and couldn´t hack it.
  • Family member died and made a choice to jump instead of going home to attend the funeral.

Nothing of the above warrants for such action.

Is he really that old, or were the Thais just confused by his male pattern balding, and he is more likely 30-45?

You, who consider safety to be of paramount importance, know exactly how to describe it.

I wish Bob the best.

I had just seen a video of it on social media. I thought there was almost no chance he survived it.

If he survives, it will sadly most probably be a severely hard existence for him and for those who will take care of him.

There seems to be a significant increase of events like this happening. One has to question what is triggering these individuals to take such desperate actions?

I think it's laughable that you could possibly think that anybody in this emotional state has any room for rational thoughts such as whether an action is warranted.

What a privileged word the Asean now crew grew up in...

True. Many people find it hard to understand just what a person with depression goes through. It's very hard to put yourself in their shoes and think they can just get some help and snap out of it. They get so low nothing matters anymore and they think this is the only way out from feeling like they do.

And many times, they're right.

Life is cruel, and some people do get into situations where suicide is literally the only realistic option.

Oh yes dudes, I know we have depression, burned out and so much more. Seems like the people on the planet have become more fragile than ever. Crap and bull, it´s just to take life and roll with the punches.

Which shows you understand nothing about the disease, yet personally know some that are suffering from it, statistically, without realizing what they're going through. Depression has always been with us, and it increases with the population, and is one of the major reasons the world has so many problems.

Ok, let´s call it natural selection. Weeding the weak one out.

And that would likely include some of your family and friends. It isn't weak having a disease you didn't deserve. It's genetics and bad luck. Everyone alive has a weakness. Many don't realize what theirs is.

I'd have went for the building behind the bridge photo to be sure to be sure....

Seems "they" are destroying themselves...

Can not just weed out the obnoxious ignorant privileged ones instead? They're far less likeable than the "weak" ones.

No, but the only thing I missed was keep away from noodles

Jumping from a bridge, what did he expect, fly like a bird ? obviously too young to have a girlfriend.

Sure, dude!

If you want to k!ll yerself wouldn't a shotgun be more effective than jumping from a footbridge that isn't high enough to do the job?

I am NOT advocating suicide, only contemplating the methods some choose to use.

This poor guy is in worse shape now than if he hadn't jumped. 😪

If the jumper is from a Western country there has been a war against men raging for some time now, at least the past 15 years.

Pit women against men.

This is one of the top priority jobs of the Controllers / Elites because no bonding = no family = no stability = no population growth.

Possible he lost his job and income too, on top of that other bullsh!t.

Guy maybe came to Thailand to clear the fog ... but wherever you go there you are.

It can spiral down quickly.

Balconies are fashionable here for foreigners and seems to be the preferred method, this guy tried a different method and it failed. Maybe he couldn’t afford a dwelling with a balcony.
