A 57-year-old Japanese tourist was assaulted in Pattaya early on October 4, leaving him with a fractured nose in a roadside altercation. The incident took place around 04.30, near the entrance of Soi 13 Chalermprakiat and has raised renewed concerns over the rise in street disputes involving foreign visitors.

Rescue workers from the Pattaya Rescue Centre responded to an emergency call reporting an attack on a foreign national. Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified only as Honda, sitting beside his blue Scoopy i motorcycle with blood covering his face. He had sustained facial injuries, including a fractured nose and was provided with immediate first aid at the scene.

Despite the offer of hospital transportation, Honda declined medical evacuation and chose to return to his hotel instead. Authorities urged him to file a report at the Pattaya City Police Station, but he opted not to pursue the matter further. This decision has frustrated local police, who say that such reluctance often hampers investigations and allows similar incidents to go unresolved.

Witnesses told officers that the confrontation appeared to begin as a verbal exchange. One observer said Honda had parked his scooter when a Thai man on a motorcycle approached him from behind. The encounter quickly turned violent when the man punched the tourist before speeding away from the scene.

The motive for the assault remains uncertain, though investigators suspect a roadside dispute triggered the violence. Police have not yet identified the suspect and continue to gather evidence in the area, including CCTV footage from nearby establishments.

Local authorities have voiced concern that the victim’s refusal to file a complaint could hinder progress in finding the attacker. They also noted that unreported assaults involving tourists make it difficult to address recurring safety issues in Pattaya.

I spend my time on AN FORUMS at 04.30am, no assault, nice and safe

I reckon drunk behaviour from the man who identifies as a Honda

Take him to Mityon for a service, he'll feel better

Your comment tells me a lot about your character.

Over the decades living in Thailand I have never, ever been assaulted by a Thai, foreigner, yes, NEVER a Thai.

I find if you keep under the radar, be polite and respectful you will never get assaulted by a Thai person.

Always the Japanese getting pummeled in TH for some reason.

They are the nicest, most cordial people in the world and yet frequent victims of violence here.

I'm up at 4am, coffee, cereal, AN, then off to the gym 5.30am.

There's a few of us sad people here. 😔

This suggests Pattaya police are lazy about the paper work as well as the simple matter of enforcing the law on the streets.  Heaven forfend!

I find that they are very polite road users, too polite at times, it holds up the traffic and it's the reason why roadabouts don't work here, too dam polite

Here in Pattaya, it's the foreigners who are rude.

All you AN members living in Pattaya, next time you hear an aggressive horn blast, look who is driving, I'll bet my left nut it's a foreigner

I guess it's difficult to be assaulted if you don't pass the front gate. 04:30 on AN? Wow....that's dedication. Only keyboard warriors assaults then.🙃🙃

The police do not need a report to continue to find this attacker....

I find the AN members awake at 4.30am not hostile, it's not until later in the day the aggressors waken.

Not only that, but if the perp is  Thai, if they get caught, they only get a slap on the wrist!

Leave the Thai bloke alone he only wanted to take Mr. Hondas bike for a ride after all he owns thousands of them so he would't miss 1 would he ??

As a tourist in Thailand you seem to be expected to know, that certain spots are "reserved" for motorbike taxi and tuk-tuk parking. I have several times been chased away, after parking my motorbike at one of these "reserved" spots.

I suspect the Japanese was not entirely sober at 4.30am and said something to trigger an assault.

Right look who is driving the car trying to run you down at the red light.

Why do people "assume" or "suspect".  It infers there is a lack of facts in this story yet they auto. conclude the Japanese man is guilty. I surely would not want them in a jury if I was trying to legally defend myself.

And on the other side of the world I am up at 4am sitting pool side with my coffee also.  At 5:30 a three mile walk and then to gym.  I’ll keep the same schedule when I get back to BKK the end of the month.

And the Japanese of course are known for their impolite behaviour, their lack of respect and violent tendencies. My money is on the Thai being at fault.

Utter bo!!ox..    Assault is still a criminal act,  the Police can act IF they could be bothered.
