An Icelandic man was arrested on October 7 for drifting a rented pickup truck in Chon Buri. Motorists shared videos of the reckless driving on social media, where the orange Ford Raptor attracted significant attention. The foreign driver was seen drifting at the Bang Saen Roundabout, despite heavy rain and later, during daytime traffic.

Videos showed the man performing similar stunts at an intersection. Saen Suk Police Station tracked the vehicle to a Thai owner, who had rented it to an Icelandic client for over two years. She voiced disappointment but mentioned the client denied driving, claiming a friend was responsible.

The pickup owner was asked to report for questioning, while the vehicle was confiscated. Based on her information, police arrested the Icelandic suspect at his residence. Although specific charges are pending, he may face a fine under Section 43(3) of the Land Transport Act for reckless driving, ranging from 400 to 1,000 baht.

This incident mirrors similar cases, such as a foreign driver arrested in Phuket in September for drifting a pickup in a parking lot. In January, a Lithuanian man faced a 12,000-baht fine for a similar stunt in Chon Buri, highlighting ongoing concerns about reckless driving by foreign nationals.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to decide on potential charges or penalties shortly. The case underscores increasing efforts to monitor and deter dangerous driving behaviors, particularly among foreign drivers.

Key Takeaways

  • An Icelandic man was arrested for reckless driving in Chon Buri.
  • He faces potential fines under the Land Transport Act.
  • Similar incidents with foreign drivers have occurred recently.

As we all know - this kind of behaviour is a restricted occupation for Thai people

There was a news piece on Thai Tv just last night about the

"Tokyo Drifters" in some multistorey parking lot

sponsored by Red Bull   I believe.

but the ending with the white pickup was just too good!!! 🤣

There was the case of a Russian  "drifting" at the Bahn Amphur parking lot

in the early hours who was reported to be under threat of visa revocation and deportation for the  heinous act !

Be careful about your wheel spins out there.

Can't wait to become a Thai citizen so I can drift and drive without a helmet

Well done as reckless and dangerous driving in Thailand is solely reserved for Thai people only.

but it doesn't stop there! You can speed in school zones, burn plastic waste near hospitals and even abandon pesky dogs at the temple.

He was totally in control, no issues there, should recruit him to teach the locals!!

Had one come up my cul-de-sac like a maniac not long ago, that was a Raptor too.

No mention of the faulty RR taillight.

Just had a thought - on a per capita basis, this single act probably makes Iceland the country with the highest crime rate in Thailand. :coffee1:

I thought that's how all Icelandics drive.....

Typical Viking driving behavior.

Yes, best to get out of the way before the raping starts.

The police going after someone for reckless or dangerous driving has to be considered to be an astonishing development, one that is good for Thai Society on multiple levels, if it's true. It's long overdue but what they really need to do is convince the pathetic Highway Patrol to actually go out and patrol the highways, to find reckless drivers and catch them in the act.

Makes me want to puke the  one sided laws in that country, a Foreigner is arrested for breaking a law ,while Teenage Thai kids un licenced,  un insured, drive around  while the police say its not important

See how many that found a thread where they can blame Thais for almost everything. Stupidity rules!

Big difference with 'foreigners in the news' than 'locals in the news' for being cited for the same thing.  AN is a business site catering to foreigners, in case you haven't noticed.

Thais getting a traffic citation without injury or death doesn't garner much traffic or comments.  Though somehow the Thai bashing rocks on, even when it has nothing to do with them ... :cheesy:

Both intentionally and unintentionally.
