    • No - I left all of that behind me when moved to Southeast Asia. If I'm not informed of the holiday, I would miss it entirely.

Well, I guess it's Halloween. đŸ‘ģ Big whoop!
If I hadn't have seen it online I'd never have remembered.  This is pretty typical for me personally.  I "miss" most Western holidays, in other words, they come, they go, and unless they are brought to my attention I wouldn't know or care.

How about you?  Do you keep track of your home-country holidays or do you just let them pass by unnoticed?

  • Christmas not connected to a religion?

  • No, its connected to a chubby fella who dresses in Red and has a big white beard. Anyone who says otherwise is a loony.

Bars/Cafes in my street (Bangkok) have been "celebrating" Halloween for weeks already.  And it is mainly for the benefit of locals as far as I can see.  I will avoid them this evening.

Nope, but mye wife do even I say we do not need to celebrate Christmas while in Thailand, she insists,

That’s the only holiday she cares about, and we do not even give presents to each other. New year and birthday I give her a present only,

Halloween wasn't even a thing in the UK until maybe the 1990's. Then it seemed to be picked up as a way of extorting chocolate and sweets by way of trick or treating. I'm not sure what the US version of a trick was, but in the UK you could expect to have an egg chucked at your windows.

I still try and give a nod to Christmas in Thailand but the family don't care much for it. They are waiting for the following week, New Year. That's when they hit their stride (and welcome a small present or two). I can look rather sad celebrating Christmas Day when all around are ignoring it. I crack on though.

That one went through to the Keeper.

Miss Halloween because of my grandchildren, and when I return, it will happen again with my daughter here. Thanksgiving I'll be with my daughter's family, as the last few years. Christmas isn't celebrated here besides  phone calls and something for my daughter here. Others aren't that important being here. New Years with my girlfriend.

I celebrate the ones not connected to a religion.....Bonfire Night, Halloween, Christmas.

Christmas food, more specifically the ham with mustard, i could not get the white crispy bread and soda for christmas food in thailand,

and it was the only thing i missed during my decades in thailand

No, and usually forget all about them, unless mentioned here or news.   Besides hating celebrating war & death, being an Atheist, not big on Christian holidays either.

Alzheimer's is a bitch.

Like @Keeps, I never celebrated Halloween back in the UK in the 1970s/80s and don't here either. I've also always hated Bonfire Night.

I do celebrate Christmas and we splash out on an all-you-can eat buffet lunch (seafood for the wife, turkey for me and my boy).

No, only Christmas, that is because my Thai family do......................đŸ¤Ŗ

555.....wakey, wakey.

Christmas I have to, beacause of the kids.

But it's gone downhill.

Halloween is nice. It not only marks a change in the weather and daylight hours, it kicks off a run of subsequent celebrations, for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, all of which have their particular foods, drinks, and fashions. I enjoy watching some classic Universal and Hammer horror films around Halloween, too. Come to think of it, I think I'll watch a few Val Lewton classics this afternoon and early evening: Cat People, I Walked with a Zombie, Isle of the Dead, The Leopard Man. Wonderful for the mood they produce.

halloween had to do originally with honoring the dead.

but some cultures have retained the original meaning more.

mexico has "The Day of the Dead" ... Dios de la Meurtas .. on november 2nd ... right around the same time

Celebrations there look like fun and probably have more significance to locals than halloween does for most westerners.
