November 7, 2025Nov 7 You can't fix stupid. Maybe China decides to crush Thailand. How about China putting a tax on agriculture, some electronics, rubbers, plastics, and some metals imported from Thailand. Sorry but the sooner AGI replaces some people the better. The throw it on the wall and see if it sticks mentality is getting old.
November 7, 2025Nov 7 The only products I buy online are products I can't source in Thailand. All this is going to do is increase my cost of living here. For the ordinary Thai people who use online shopping more than I do, their cost of living is also going to increase. Meanwhile the politicians who don't use online shopping (because they only shop in luxury goods stores) won't give this a second thought because when you have millions stashed in multiple bank accounts, who gives a damn about a few extra baht that the ordinary people have to pay.
November 7, 2025Nov 7 Ordered vegetable seeds worth 90 Baht including postage from China. If seeds are taxed with 40%, the tax revenue would be 36 Baht. This needs to be collected through the messenger boy who has to deliver that, the courier company has to make daily statements, to be balanced at the courier company's head office with all the other tax income to finally be sent to the customs department where matters are rechecked with copies etc. etc. While I certainly agree that chicken feed can create some piles of money, I just have one question. Who will compensate the couriers for their extra work? As the taxman has no work on it, except defining the taxation level and the "assumed" purchase price incl shipping costs ....... To collect those 36 Baht in this fictitious example I would assume, that the costs related to it are considerably more than the collected "tax".

But to the Thai, it will mean either reduced spending by the people buying things or those buying and selling will lose in sales. Either way, it is not a very smart move for the Thai people. More for corruption. Do the public gain? No. Do the government/politicians/ rich gain? YES. what's the next move? CASINO'S???

I doubt that 7% of the dirt cheap china imports will have much effect other than making them 7% less cheap. But China is an economically powerful country, they may lobby against it. The Thai resellers of Chinese goods might also make a big noise. We’ll see how it washes out. Personally, I’m not worried about it. I don’t think it will amount to much. Just my uninformed opinion though.

As I said, wait till the consequence kicks in, and the rule of retraction comes in. Ha ha....someone who has been around a while, doesn't panic or react to the first bit of adverse news - and waits for the traditional flip-flop. I shall take the same approach as I have towards the nonsense about taxing remittances........... adopt a watching brief and don't waste time on watching bullsh1t videos from American lawyers.
November 7, 2025Nov 7 And I was wondering what took the money hungry so long to come up with this money grubbing Idea, That will mean endless lines for all those who's buying from Lazada and shopping and Temu good luck to them all and good luck to the skeleton personals at those post office with their outdated systems.
November 7, 2025Nov 7 Large Chinese dropshipping companies will rent or purchase additional large warehouses in Thailand and import massive quantities of merchandise at minimal prices, which will then be resold by merchants within Thailand. This will drastically reduce Thailand's expected tax revenue.

Will have a serious impact on sugar cane prices this year.
November 7, 2025Nov 7 To avoid further speculation I did a little research. The new customs duty, for all purchases over 1 baht, will have different rates for different types of product. For example, electronics goods are 10%, 20% for bags, luggage and home decor, etc. The rates are typically between 0-35% but can be as high as 80% for certain items like alcohol and luxury goods. Pre-July 2024, any online overseas purchases below 1,500 baht were VAT-exempt. Since then all online overseas purchases now have 7% VAT added. Personally, I'm quite sanguine about this because Chinese products (as most of these purchases are) are so cheap in the first place that 10-20% here or there doesn't make it a deal-breaker. Also, as others have stated, it doesn't provide a level playing field for domestic retailers. Losing all the domestic retailers and relying totally on China (which I'm sure China would love) is not a good place to be.

It would also create jobs so it's probably the best option all round.
November 7, 2025Nov 7 i will be boycotting online purchases for 1 year - i want this policy to fail so badly . Its about time we taught the authorities a hard lesson in punitive taxes - which everybody except this govt knows is bad for business. you want to shut down imports -ok . I will shut down my local purchases in retaliation.everybody go without for 1 year....so we can send a clear message :Stop ripping everybody off.
November 7, 2025Nov 7 Tax All Online Shopping Imports - this really is a curse indeed. I sincerely hope it will be a reasonable amount.

How will adding a tax on TOP of a tax be good for business? Are they trying to copy the new US business model? That's failing miserably. BAD idea, folks. Well we all know where the moneys going and it won't be to the Thai people except a few at the top

November 7, 2025Nov 7 I would say it will be 30% across the board plus 7% VAT which is currently what we get charged with imports over 1500 baht
November 7, 2025Nov 7 Its no different to Trump placing tariffs on Chinese imports, Thailand's new import duty rule will mean all imported goods irrespective of the value will have import duty charged on CIF and 7% VAT on top so tax on tax like most countries!! Example Goods purchased = 1000 Freight & Insurance = 500 Landed cost 1500 30% duty on CIF 450 Sub total. 1950 Vat 7%. 136.50 Post office fee 150 Total Cost 2236.50

November 7, 2025Nov 7 Popular Post When a country is burdened by politicians who are lacking vision and unable to come up with creative solutions for economic problems, the default position is to charge more taxes. Very dull groups like the Trump administration are doing the same thing in the US only they're trying to disguise the taxes as tariffs, but in reality that is just a tax hike on the consumer. The long-term effect is to slow down the economy and create significant job loss.
