Eric.

Last night was first time with BBL.

Really how is a security feature? If I have the app open and I take a screen cap what is the problem?

...ask the app devs!

I don't know how it is a security feature, but that is the reason given for not allowing screen captures of banking apps.

Eric.

Most banks do not allow screenshots. This is a security measure to avoid that sensitive information is captured by other apps or programs. Just imagine a malicious app trying to steal your financial information by capturing informations within your bank app.

It worked a few days ago.  There should be a secondary auth asking for my phone code in order to initiate screen cap to avoid the type of scenario you described.  I use 2FA authentication apps and that's what they do before I can access the 2FA code.  If it's secure enough for them it should be good enough for a banking app.

Any security 'solution' that prevents me from doing useful legit things is NOT a proper solution.

First time you tried maybe.

Since years on with Bangkok Bank app on Android.

Bangkok Bank, SCB, Kasikorn, Krungsri: none of them allowed screenshots.

SCB (in the past) paranoid about developer mode/USB data connection.

Krungsri only once came with a warning "non standard keyboard" (Gboard in use).

There is more to your story.

It's not the usual popup for screen shot forbidden.

But the second part says you have screen recording app in use.

I tried the same and no it won't work!

Why do you need the screenshots? Not arguing against it, but for me each transaction is saved in my photos so I never had a need to do it.

It never was allowed on mine and others as you can read.

Shows you how far behind the times that bank is. Other banks doing this for years already.

Preventing sensitive data from being saved on the device

  • A screenshot can capture:
  • account numbers
  • balances
  • transaction details
  • one-time passwords (OTPs)
  • QR payment codes

If these images sit in the photo gallery, they could be accessed by:

  • malware that scans images,
  • other apps with gallery permissions,
  • someone who briefly gets into your phone.

Why is there more to my story? I think I know what is happening to me.

I don't get a popup in the app when I take a screen shot but the message I posted appears in my "photo" on iPhone.

And other than the screen shot, which in itself is a screen recording, but I did not have any other screen apps recording unless  I have a secret malicious app.

Apple iOS 26.0.1.

Protecting you from yourself.

If your app automatically takes screenshots then of course you don't need to do it yourself.  Bangkok Bank app does not automatically take screenshots nor would I want it or any other app to do so.

What app are you using that is doing that?

Previously when I did a transaction with Bangkok Bank the transaction was automatically saved in my photos app on my iPhone. I have not tried it since I got this new message ( for me anyhow).

This was "sent" to me yesterday. Automatically in my photos app.

Kasikorn does that, or rather it saves an image of the transaction receipt.  I don't think there is anything on the receipt that could be used to access the account, it is simply something to send to a vendor (for instance) to prove payment has been made.

I use the Bangkok Bank app on an iPhone. I have the latest version of the app and used it last night. It saved a photo of the transaction to my photos. Maybe there is a setting that controls this?

I use my phone a lot. Use scan QR code most of the time now and have never had a problem so far.

Just my choice.

Yes - the app has an option in Settings to automatically save each transaction slip. However, I tried to take a screenshot and got this ...

I use the Etrade app now and then.  It also does not allow my phone to take screen shots.  Seems odd that an app can prevent a phone intrinsic function from working.

No account numbers are shown in my bank app, it's starred out.

But 2 phones solves any problems with taking screen shots.

It's been like that for ages.

I used to take long screenshots of History, very handy

Not unusual for a banking app. My bank in England doesn't allow screenshots on their app either.
