Cold spell in Thailand, what's your REAL temp now?

Featured Replies

I was just in Chiang Mai today for immigration and came back to Samoeng in the evening (about 40km west of Chiang Mai). Freezing hands riding on the motorbike over the mountain which peaks at only 1100 meters and now at 10:30 PM it's 18C (64F). It's going to be pretty cold tomorrow morning I'm quite sure.

What's the REAL temperature where you're at now? The temp given on Google is wrong by about 4 degrees so I'm curious where else is seeing this cold weather.

  • Just out of Kanchanaburi - a chilly 22’ as we speak - should hit about 30 today. Perfect temperatures!! Not too hot - so can get a bit of work done around the farm.

16C this morning at 7.00am, Khao Kho elevation 780 metres ASL. Check it every morning as well as the barometer. 15C has been the coldest so far but last season got down to 10C.

  • I find the cold hits different here. If I was home in UK I would think it's a pleasant summers day. Here I am wearing a hoodie, long trousers and thick socks.

The Apple Weather app is quite good if you have an iPhone. If you don't, try downloading the AccuWeather app. Normally pretty accurate. It's about 21° in Bangkok right now. Hope it lasts more than another week.

It's a little nippy up here in the hills of Luang Prabang.  I had to buy a little 1-bar electric heater to stop my toes getting cold at night 🙂

Morning update! 14.5 and foggy out. First day of proper winter I think.

I bet it's really nice weather there. I should visit before it gets destroyed by tourism (or has it already?).

Will you be going there as a tourist ?

Can you actually confirm that measuring it yourself? I don't know where their data is coming from but it's all over the place.

Not if there are too many tourists there! I'd go to Phuket or Koh Samui if it was 15+ years ago but I won't go there now.

About 200 Backpackers arrive there by boat everyday from Huay Xai

This is a cold spell for Kanchanaburi right? I wouldn't think it would get chilly down there ever but I've never been.

Are their long term rentals up there like houses? I just saw some videos on YouTube and it looked like all resorts and gobbled up by tourists (mainly from Bangkok?)

EDIT: I'm looking  atGoogle maps again and now there's lots of private houses up there. Very large and spacious area. The Bangkok Thai love to get up in the mountains and build these posh luxury resorts which don't reflect at all on the area and culture.

Take a real measurement I'm 99% sure those apps are wrong. I was in Mae Jo on Sunday/Monday and it was 20 I think but it got way colder last night. I don't believe it got colder than 780 meters in Khao Kho or even at 500 meters in Samoeng where Mae Jo is 300 meters.

There are lot of resorts here, somewhere between 1000-2000, from shoe boxes to 4 star that really only cater for short term tourists. Private rental houses do exist but good ones are not easy to find at realist prices. Old houses in a village can be found for 3000 baht a month, something a bit better surrounded by a bit of land ask up to 30000.

On my bike GPS ..... Risen to 17c now, was 15c when I was out cycling at 6:30am.

In the rural mountains of Northeastern Lamphun province?

Colder than a witch's mammaries in a brass bra on the Siberia Stepps on New Years Eve.  🧹

Oh please don't

I went back to the London for a couple of days last week and it was -1C, so even getting back to these cooler temperatures, it still feels warm to me.
