A fire erupted in a Nonthaburi warehouse on November 28, severely damaging luxury vehicles, including supercars and Teslas, with estimated losses of 200 million baht. The blaze began around 7.50 a.m., shortly after a white light was seen on CCTV footage, and quickly consumed the facility. The fire also engulfed a firefighting truck as crews struggled to control the flames.

Authorities were notified by Pol. Lt. Col. Phon Phueanphrom at 8.30 a.m., prompting immediate efforts from local and surrounding fire stations. The warehouse, located in Pak Kret district's Om Kret subdistrict, housed expensive vehicles. ACM Ekkarat Sasanasunthonchai reviewed security footage showing how the fire started and alerted the Om Kret Subdistrict Administrative Organisation.

Initial assessments suggest that the fire destroyed approximately five supercars worth 100 million baht and 45 Tesla vehicles valued at around 90 million baht. The total damage to vehicles and the warehouse structure nears 200 million baht.

Fabio Bulleri, an industry expert, stated, “The loss to both the retailer and the manufacturers is significant, and will likely impact future imports and sales in the region.” Other stakeholders, including vehicle owners, are awaiting detailed assessments.

Moving forward, an investigation will be conducted to determine the precise cause of the fire and to assess safety protocols. Local authorities are working to ensure that preventive measures are reinforced to avoid similar incidents, reported Thai Newsroom.

Key Takeaways

  • A warehouse fire in Nonthaburi damaged supercars and Tesla vehicles.
  • Total estimated damage is about 200 million baht.
  • An investigation into the fire's cause is underway.

Do they really have 'luxury' Teslas now ?

When I hear the word luxury I think of Rolls Royce, Maybach, Bentley, etc - not Tesla, lol

No insurance for either the cars or warehouse?

Otherwise what is the net loss?

If you can’t sell it burn it.  But insurance investigators aren’t stupid.  At least in Canada they are not.

If they were insured, the companies will not be happy.

190 million baht of cars, alleged Zero fire prevention or fire suppression system installed.

Definitely would have some clauses in the insurance policy regarding minimum fire safety equipment needed to be installed when a large number of vehicles are stored inside.

Masterpiece Body Services?

If so, I wonder if the residences next to it were saved from burning?

In Thailand the term "luxury cars" refers to the price or value, not the standard of the interiors.

You're seeing the rear three quarters of a burned-out Tesla.

The insurers won't give a toss because that's what they're there for and they also will have insurance cover for their payout liability.

Where was that alleged, certainly not in the OP.

There is no such thing as sufficent fire suppression for a building full of electric cars.Any such building is a disaster waiting to happen .Same thing happened in China recently where a huge 3 storey car showroom full of new electric cars burnt down. The building  and every car was totally destroyed.

Of course they care.  Dealing with reinsurers can be a chore.

Insurers definitely care.  Profitablity of the company depends on keeping claims they payout on within their projected range.  That's why they send insurance inspectors to photo, detail and submit the details back for review and approval.

In the US insurers would pull out of unprofitable markets.  This happened with Florida when hurricanes causing catastrophic damage were becoming almost routine.

Ha! The insurance companies won't pay--are you kidding me. Have you ever dealt with a Thai insurance company?!?

If not, of course Elon will pay. They're his flagship.

I don't think "care" comes into it , As another member has pointed out , it is the business that they are in, In the same way that the horse racing "bookies" manipulate the "odds" and "lay bets on" to ensure that over all they never lose, Insurance companies have their own ways of mitigating their larger losses .     Anyway its a bit ridiculous to imagine  grim faced suited executives being "upset" or "not happy"  its not like its their personal money and It won't affect their salary     What is there to "care" about"

If a certain insurance market sector becomes unprofitable they simply increase their premiums to balance the books where possible ,  if it is not possible then they will understandably withdraw from that market sector , They are not obliged to offer insurance to anybody or for anything

When you look around large cities you can't help than notice that many big highrise office buildings are branded with an insurance companies name.

They would not have them if if thet weren't careful what risks that they take and keep raising the premiums or deny cover in high risk areas.

And expensive.

Of course they care as you said.

Has the cause been mentioned yet, did one EV car destroy the rest, for instance....🤫

In addition, no reinsurance company will accept a risk if the insurance company itself is not partaking.

One lithium battery could have done all this.
