4 Mcdonalds now in Nana

Featured Replies

Is this really wise to 'allow' another Mcdonalds to open up on Sukhumvit Road, Nana ?

You have one near the Marriot, then you have two as you walk down towards Terminal 21. Now they've opened up another new one on the same road. 4 in total.

In scenarios like this should local officials not get involved and say this isn't good for the city, tourism, and image. Clearing loads of street food vendors for Mcdonalds is just so typical.

No doubt they are busy, but as a city that is based on tourism - surely that is an awful ugly image. Was there a need for them to open a new one, when the other is literally yards away.

I know some cities ban or put limits on big corporations opening up, and allow locals to run dining.

I assume all McD's here are owned/operated by Thai franchisees? And that they employ quite a lot of Thais.

I also assume that there are rules re: a franchisee's geographical exclusivity.

And there are about ten 7-11. So, whats the point?

Nana is a <deleted>hole anyway

Was very pleasant last night and I'd take a Nana Burger over a McD every time.

5 if you count the one in Soi 3, Bumrungrad Hospital.

I think there is 4 burger kings too if you include soi 11 - all in one mile radius.

Was this the big masterplan when they cleared up the street food, to replace it with fast food chain restaurants ?

Not saying Nana is the bastion of class, but still ...

Sorry but all the McDonald's I ate in Thailand are 99% of the time just perfect and the buns are just like on the photo. Nothing compared to the McDonalds and their awful preparations and stale taste, I get served in Germany or in France.

As for the numbers increasing in Thailand, well, there is strong demand for all the bad american junk food that the Thai's love. The good point is that this stuff is so fattening, that those fine thai ladies are getting more and more busty here now 😜

I think the 'awful ugly image' of a new McD at the top of Soi 11 works perfectly with the existing "welcome to Thailand" street scene of butt ugly street hookers (although as an inclusive city there's a good sprinkling of trans ones), aggressive African drug dealers, stalls burgeoned with fake Viagra and lurid Chinese sex toys ...

I don't think that the sreet food customers are gonna rush into Mc Dodalds to get their food as they are a different demographic. Most street food is far cheaper and usually cooked fresh and very tasty where as Mc Donalds is mass produced and tastes like it and cater for the tourists who don't want to or are too scared to experiment with local food and eat what they usually eat at home.

McDonald's Robinson Sukumvit has the best coffee on Sukhumvit Road. Still 65THB for 8 oz cup.

Same coffee is 50 baht at McDonald's Major Cineplex Ekamai. 45 baht if you pay with Rabbit card.

In nearly 30 years of coming to Thailand, I'm happy to say I've never eaten McDonald's here and never will. There are so many better burger places. Primeburger #1 IMO.

They have opened another restaurant for me, I'm their best custom.

I like all the McDonald's restaurants within walking distance.

I'm off for breakfast now.

You know what they call a cheeseburger in France?

I assume these are franchise outlets; let the market and demand decide the necessity - future will tell ;-)

As I never ever frequent any of those 21st century places selling burgers, chicken etc. I could - frankly speaking - not give a whiff!

During my first trip to Thailand in 1979 there were exactly zero US fast food chains in LOS. Lots of Thai curry stalls all over Bangkok with huge portions for 5 Baht. Noodle soups were two Baht.

There already was a Dunkin Donuts at SIAM square. They arrived years before the hamburger joints made an appearance.

I was astonished by how fast the newest one (at Soi 8) went in.

It was some old-fashioned money changer or tailor or whatever placeholder my mind fills in for the typical nondescript business along that part of Sukhumvit Road. Presumably no infrastructure for a kitchen (exhaust ductwork, etc.).

I went upcountry for like 3 days at New Years and when I got back the space was suddenly a McDonalds — like it had always been there.

Simultaneously, the one at Soi 5 seems to have been reduced in size.

those sex tourists need their junk food, helps keep the weight on to impress their ladies...

I suppose a good thing is it serves 24 hours and gives some bright lights in the early morning hours when the vendors have left.

I was trying to remember what was there too - anyway it's still showing on google maps as Jewelry Mart.
