Oh dear! Can we please be realistic here. If you died tomorrow, you sat as headline. After that, you ask if we would have regrets or be content. Heck, in that situation, I am dead. Something that mean

That question is ultimately inconsequential, for the possession of its answer alters nothing of substance. What truly demands attention is the undeniable fact of your presence in this moment. Given that you are here, existence presses a more profound inquiry upon you, namely how you will choose to respond to the conditions of your being.

One should never give up the ghost.

At least, not willingly.

Perhaps the real issue is that you are uncomfortable asking yourself these questions, so you look for a way to avoid them. If so then, that's your own choice. Do as you wish.

Not uncomfortable at all. Just don´t care much about it. What´s done is done, and what was not done is not worth speculating about. That´s called being at peace.

I have two regrets.

I wish that I had stopped smoking when my son (at age 12) asked me to. (I finally wised up 27 years ago and quit.)

I regret not learning to fly (for a cost of $200 only) when I was in the Air Force and could join the base flying club.

Other than those two, I've lived a life rich enough for 3 men.
I've been poor, and I've been rich. I've been loved, and I've been hated.

I've traveled the world, exploring the land and under the sea. (I like Thailand best for living, the Western Caroline Islands in the South Pacific for scuba diving.)

I've created, and I've destroyed. I've had successful businesses and failed ones.

I've taught thousands of young people at university, getting them started in their futures, and have been taught by so many great minds, too!

By other people's standards, I'm 'successful.' ( I have had the MBA, BMW, and condo),

By my standards, I've loved and been loved, have succeeded in my home life, business, and sports.

I'm 79 years old and still out there doing my thing. Hopefully, I'll still be riding motorcycle every day into my 80's.

If I were to die tomorrow, none could say I have not lived.

If you mean what are you doing on AN I am sure that thee are many on AN asking the same question.

At 80 ,not one regret ,got to see a lot of the World, seen so much and amazing things in my life,

but pleased I won't be part of the future , because it does not look good ,IMHO ....

Whats the best road trip or 2 you did?

A summer ride through Europe, mostly centered in the Alps of the various countries, but taking side trips to visit some of the more popular tourist attractions of many cities. 4 weeks on a BMW R1200, back and forth over the various passes over the mountains, trying to 'collect' them all, or riding slow through the countryside... We had a glorious time with wonderful memories.

That's easy, though a toss up for USA, between Southern Florida & down the Keys, or, Delaware Water Gap, PA area, during Autumn leaves changing.

For TH, our southern loops including Phuket during 'high season' without the tourist during Scamdemic. All the beaches were pristine, and maybe 5 people on them, including us. Thailand was never better.

Nature holidays people dream of.

Non road trips, Caribbean beach & dive holidays in the 90's, and pretty hard to beat.

all good for me. plus, my mate back home knows where my will is, he's an executor, and where a letter containing all my passwords is.

A person who claims they have no regrets are lieing to themselves or making excuses. So, you never risked or made any mistakes about anything? How stupid to believe.

Some food for thought and much hyperbole here.

I'll have to have a ponder.

I woke up this morning so much of the philosophical thinking was irrelevant.

Today I was thinking about climbing Everest or running a marathon but decided against it. Even if I could tell my mates about it none of them would really be interested so why bother. I suppose I could tell that ex-SAS guy I talk to at the bar but I doubt he would be interested either.

Kind of like buying a new car? After three weeks and you shown it to all your mates (whichever comes first) after that it is just your car like the one before.

Tomorrow I will stare at the clouds and maybe go back to the philosophical stuff.

the 1950s, fears of a third world war were widespread in the United States, driven by the escalating Cold War tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union's successful testing of an atomic bomb in 1949 marked a turning point, ending the U.S. nuclear monopoly and intensifying anxieties about nuclear conflict. This fear was further amplified by the Chinese Communist takeover in 1949 and the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, which many Americans saw as evidence of a rapidly spreading communist threat. The situation reached a peak in December 1950 when a massive Chinese offensive in Korea surprised U.S. forces, leading President Harry Truman to write in his diary that “It looks like World War III is here”. Intelligence reports at the time suggested that the Soviet Union might be seeking to provoke a general war, heightening the sense of imminent global conflict.

Would you be satisfied with the life you have lived?

The real question is whether you would have regrets about things you wanted to achieve or experience but never did. Forget reincarnation or some afterlife in the next life. This is not about that. This is about the life you have right now. Are you living it fully? Are you doing what you actually want to do? Are you living life on your own terms or on someone else’s?

I realise some people have health issues that genuinely hold them back and are now beyond their control. Maybe different choices earlier in life could have led to better health today, maybe not. What’s done is done. In some cases things can still change, in others they cannot. So if we assume that certain limits like health or finances are fixed, the question remains. Are you still living life the way you want to regardless of circumstances?

You should be. Life is not just about having all the money or being physically capable of say climbing Mount Everest. Fulfillment does not have to be expensive or to that physical extreme. A lot of satisfaction can come cheaply and quietly. Much of it depends on the individual and their own interests, pursuits or ambitions.

If you spend most of your days drinking, feeling angry, and blaming the world or someone in it for everything, then you probably are not living a very fulfilling life. But that can change. It is never too late. Most of it comes down to attitude, drive, and the personal desire to thrive.

So where do you place yourself on that spectrum?

Yes, I would be satisfied but it doesn't really matter does it, death is inevitable, the slate is wiped clean at that moment, your hopes, dreams or lack of them doesn't matter anymore, your triumphs and defeats are dust in the wind, your personal growth or lack of never happened, the birds will still sing, the fields will be harvested, the sun will still rise while you return to the source.

Satisfied, but if I could change one thing, I'd have sex with fewer women.

I did too many, and the experiences all blurred together.

Best road trip I did started in Aquaba (scuba diving with a princess on the royal yacht), through Wadi Rum (where we got stuck in deep sand), along the Kings Highway to Petra (walked all the way up to the monastery), then up to the Dead Sea (where our car cylinder head blew), and a local farmer drove us to Amman.

Most people would not have regrets or feelings of satisfaction of a live well lived once they die, as dead people don't exhibit emotions, they are dead.

Yes, I've ticked most of my to-do boxes, the only regret be would not seeing the grandkids into adulthood and settled.

The OP sounds like the opening pitch of a recruiter for a cult.

Nothing wrong with that. I Bet many when they are sick, impotence and about to die look back and wish they would have banged more.
