Topping up BTS Rabbit card online as a foreigner

Featured Replies

Downloaded the Rabbit app, tried to link my Rabbit card to the app, it told me to go to a BTS station to register. Went to the station, was told foreigners cannot have a Rabbit wallet. Then I tried to register through line pay, said I had to register on the foreigner page, cant find that page....

So the question is, has anyone managed to top a Rabbit card online as a foreigner, if so how please?

Not sure if it works, but according to BTS website:

How to add value in a Rabbit card

Thanks, its one of those easier said than done things!

I top up my rabbit card through the app. Never had a problem, tops up from my bank account. However I also cannot 'link' my card to the app although I don't know what I'm really missing but not being able to do that.

thanks very much, dumb question time, how do you top up through the app as it keeps telling me to register at a station.

You are right, I tried the same and got an error message. The app asked me to go to the station. I will probably continue to top it up at the counter. The app does not seem to be made for foreigners. Not related to the topic but at least True money seems to work within hours after registration.

I never registered anywhere except through the app and have been using it for a couple of years. But it is clear many things have changed here over that time and quite possibly this is another example.

Yep, went to Siam station thinking being a larger one in the middle of town they could do it, they told me can only do for Thais.

Guess you were/are lucky, thanks anyway.

Guess so. I also have a balance in my Rabbit Wallet but have no idea what to do with it! (I originally thought I'd be able to use it to top up the card but that option does not exist).

I do it all the time. Went to Surasak bts recently with my passport and they registered me but took ages.

"I just want to go to Chid Lom, not North Korea!"

Why are they asking for passports and phone numbers now?

Are people laundering money thru Rabbit cards?

More apps, more surveillance.

Yes

Yes, they told me I had to go to Phaya Thai Station to change/register again when trying to top up with new passport.

I re-registered three Rabbit cards at the Rabbit Service Center within the BTS station (but outside of the turnstiles, on the south side). Since then, I've been able to top up at a ticket booth using QR code or cash.

I've only been able to add one card to the My Rabbit app. The other two are rejected for an "information mismatch". (App says you can manage up to five ards.)

I tried topping up within the My Rabbit app, and successfully took 100 baht from my SCB account. However, that didn't get added to my balance, and I received an "unsuccessful" top-up message. And I'm out 100 baht. Brilliant.

Maybe the app/online top-up only works for Thais?

Works for me but that could be pure luck.

I was behind a woman trying to get a Rabbit card. It seemed like a complicated process. Getting a BTS card shouldn't be this difficult.

The main reason for asking is a couple of weeks ago they wouldnt let me top up my card with cash at Siam as they needed to register my passport again. I took my passport to Siam, verified my identity. So I downloaded the app and went back to register the card for top up and got to this stage.

I'd recommend anyone getting a new card, verifying identity or in fact any interaction with station staff that would be a long drawn out process to do this early in the morning when the BTS is really busy thus tying up window staff. They may start rethinking this whole ridiculous process........

I was behind a foreigner this week trying to buy a Rabbit card. He had his (U.S.) passport, the agent tried scanning it a few times with her pod, then she walked over to a different terminal and tried scanning it a few times - no go, she came back, issued a Rabbit card but advised the customer to try registering it at a different location (maybe Phrom Phong?).

At the Rabitt service center they tried scanning my (U.S.) passport a few times, didn't work so they had to enter the details manually. I've seen other reports of an admitted scanning issue with U.S. passports.

The "money-laundering" thing sounds suspect, and stupid. Why impact millions of customers with silly KYC rules? Have they caught anyone "laundering money" through Rabbit cards?

I have my Rabbit card connected to my Credit Card, never need to top up. Get a message within 10 seconds after I have been using it, works flawless.
