Okay, you're saying WISE is incompetent.

I use it too.

What do you recommend for transfers from Germany to Thailand?

I don’t class WISE as incompetent, it depends what bank your sending too, I set a transfer up just after 9am today, I received an email to say my money had been sent, it wasn’t available in my Bangkok Bank account until 2.13pm, obviously BB were holding on to it.

Wise works great until it doesn’t…

After several years of smooth transfers to Bangkok Bank from my bank in the UK, I began to experience long delays. I therefore changed to SCB and the first transfer went well. Today, Wise made 2 attempts to transfer a modest amount to SCB but the funds were returned and they cancelled, saying it takes up to 10 days to get the money back in my account, minus the transfer fee. I think that this is pretty outrageous.

Do members have suggestions for other transfer companies and have any of you had problems with transfers to SCB? Thank you.

Was it coded with FTT? If it was it is a foreign transfer. BBL have to code it manually. That it why it always around 1400. Did you selected long term stay in Thailand with wise?

I dumped Wise a few months' ago after they threatened to close my account unless I could prove to their satisfaction my right to reside in Thailand, which, in practice, I could only do with a non-existent Thai driving licence in my case! This was in addition to requests for proof of my ID and address, which I was able to satisfy with my passport and latest UK bank statement.

I wasn't able to satisfy their request that I confirm my residential address. I finally found a bank statement at my stateside credit union, which has my snail mail address, but it didn't satisfy them. I guess I'm going to have to do a wire transfer every month now, which takes about 45 minutes, for some reason. Bummer. I have seen a headline that U.S. Social Security is changing a regulation which will make it harder to collect your benefit overseas, but haven't read the article.

Yes a UK expat can open Wise in Thailand. They just need to prove their address, so someone with only a Thai address having no address back home in the UK could show Wise a current bank statement with the address on it for example. T&C can differ, for example the expat with a Thai address cannot get a Wise Debit card as things stand at the moment.

As far as I know, the bank statement from BBL does not show my Thai address. My bank book doesn't, and my BuaLuang Banking program on my desktop doesn't. When I received a demand to prove my Thai address I was not able to comply. None of the utility bills we get here have my name on them, and their requirement of additional official documentation would be impossible for me. I haven't received a paper bank statement in probably 20 years, and, as I said above, a Thai bank statement probably wouldn't do me any good. I haven't driven a car in thirty-five years, and don't have a driver's license. My last four transfers took a week or more to arrive (I use BBL, maybe that's the reason), so I'm not entirely unhappy to make a wire transfer every month. This month I called my credit union at 20:00 hours and the money was in my Thai bank the next morning. Making a wire transfer is a pain in the neck, though, so I'm still looking for other ways.

With all their absurd bureaucratic hassles, I stopped using Wise, Currency Fair, Revolut etc. Depending in which country you send out the money, they charge fares. I now do a regular transfer from my european bank, And if the rate may be a bit less, the expenses are also far less compared to Revolut et al. Once again all depends on which country you are. But for many non European Union nations, you are far better of doing the transfer directly from your bank abroad to your bank in Thailand if you have to send funds. But of course, nothing beats carrying the cash if you are a winter bird and only stay less then 180 days per year.

That's strange. I have 5 different accounts with Bangkok Bank. The statements for each one shows my Thai address.

I also have accounts with SCB bank and Krungsri bank. My statements from those also show my Thai address.

Interesting. I get utility bills from the condo management where i live. They have my name and Thai address on them.

Further, I have a Thai driver's licence that has my address and a pink ID that has my Thai address. In both cases, the address is in Thai language thou.

I had to prove my Thailand address recently for a Canadian bank, so I forwarded them copy of my pink ID and Thai driver's licence (with address in Thai) and I also forwarded a google translation copy of those, noting they too could paste the copiy I provided (of pink-ID/driver's licence) into google to get a translation - so to prove accuracy of the Google translation.

Having typed that, I use a German address for my Wise. Its a friends place where typically I spend about 1-month per year (when I travel to Europe). I believe using a Thai address with Wise limits one to a Wise business account ? < unsure > and I believe its awkward with Wise to use a Thai address.

Best wishes to all in finding a suitable transfer method that works.

My Wise account was registered using a Thai address (I don't have a UK address anymore) . It is NOT a Wise business account and I have had no real issues when using the account.

Sent 1000 pound from UK account to my Krugthai account on 31st January and the money arrrived before i closed the app.

FYI- my Wise account is registered to mu UK address and i just had to send my pasport sacan and a selfie to open a Wise bank account. This makes it easier for your UK bank to release the funds as you are sending to an account in your own name.
