A motorcycle taxi rider captured and exposed a foreign tourist, who appeared to be Russian, defecating on a traffic island in Pattaya. The incident took place on February 7 and quickly gained attention after the rider shared footage on social media. The video showed the tourist attempting to shield himself with a bush, but his actions were clearly visible to passing motorists.

According to the rider, the tourist booked a ride to his condominium but unexpectedly jumped off near the destination and headed to the traffic island. The rider, initially planning to wait, canceled the ride upon realizing the tourist had no means to clean himself, potentially soiling the motorcycle seat. The rider accepted a loss of 32 baht to maintain vehicle hygiene.

The footage sparked significant online condemnation, with many labeling the behavior as disrespectful. However, discussions also surfaced around the lack of public restrooms in tourist regions, with some suggesting the incident highlights a broader infrastructure issue. While some questioned why the tourist did not seek a petrol station or store, others noted relief that the act did not occur on the moving motorcycle.

A previous similar incident on Koh Tao involved a foreign woman urinating near a restaurant, resulting in public sharing of CCTV footage by the owner. This prompted calls for police action under the Public Cleanliness and Orderliness Act to potentially impose penalties and curb such actions by tourists in the future, reported The Thaiger.

On a more serious note, I hope that law enforcement doesn't go overboard trying to identify and arrest this guy. He already had a <deleted>ty day. No need to rub it in. Maybe a fine as a cleaning fee.

If you have to go and there are no public facilities, what do you do? If guy was a proper reprobate, he would just drop one on the sidewalk like some Chinese do. Will never forget Chinese kids (encouraged by parents) pissing in pool overflow in a nice Chiang Mai hotel, all the while when a toilet was mere steps away. No class or scruples. Russians can be as equally scummy, but this dude might’ve had a genuine problem.

I don't suppose the lack of public toilets has anything to do with this?

1. Install public toilets every 300 yards

2. Signs in Thai and English pointing the way

3. TAT make it public knowledge that tourists may use restaurant toilets without being a customer

4. Add to the English understanding of taxi drivers what toilet means and drive to the nearest gas station poste haste

Many a time I had the driver to go search for a gas station.

I think it is a reflection of the current culture. It was destroyed over a century of callous and murderous leadership. Stalin, Lenin, Khruschev, now Putin. They have become somewhat savage and crude. No grace, no finesse, no courtesy. Rather uncivilized. My family was from Russia a few generations back. I used to ask my great-grandmother when she was still around, why they didn't teach us anything about the old country. She would give me this look, and tell me "the reason we never taught you about the place we came from, is because the place we came from was the most horrific country on earth, it was the most destitute, horrible, oppressive place and we were thrilled to finally get out of there and leave it behind. That's why we don't teach you about the old country, the old country doesn't exist for us. 

There are a multitude of reasons why very few around the world have sympathy for the Russians. Those reasons are not limited to their serial killing, despot, thieving multi billionaire dictator for life. It is more about their nature, their history as ruthless, homicidal Cossack warriors, and their total lack of manners, and class. Not to mention the dignity, class, decency, civility, and social skills decades of Leninism, Stalinism, and now Putinism has stripped them of. 

 

And of course, the utter failure of their leader. This is a clear case of psychological projection: Putin dreamt and failed to create a dollar-free world and establish Russia as an “energy superpower.” He allowed corruption to metastasize through the state’s fabric, undermining its security capabilities. With its mass emigration, skyrocketing divorce rate, and low fertility, Russia, more than the West, demonstrates an immense collapse of family and social values. Russia is a completely lost nation.

I am pretty sure soiling the motorcycle seat is what would have happened had he not jumped off

to be fair when you are desperate you have to go, he tried to find some cover, more likely to happen to tourists. Toilets are hard to find

Perhaps this tourist should have talked to the locals and then he would have realized that he should look for restrooms at gas stations, shopping malls, or even massage shops.

However, it seems he simply didn't have enough time.

I agree, people are being harsh for a situation they were not subjected to. A bit of spicy food the night before, a gut problem that age brings can contribute. There are not many public toilets around and I have had the problem myself while walking in the mornings. A kindly massage lady once let me use her place! Other than that you are hoping to get to the nearest Mall. Don't ignore the warning twinges.

The OP is more an indictment of the sorry infrastructure (and spicy food) than the poor guy who code browned. Trash bins and toilets are requirements if you want to be a world class tourism destination.
