Plan for end of life

Featured Replies

I often wonder why people older than 75 don't plan for end of life

Be a realist please ,once your over 80 life is shorter

Time and time again I have had to tell people over this age group to plan ....I remember back in 1998 telling my late father to get his Will in order and that being 78 at that time he probably wouldn't be here in 10 years ( I was right )

We ended up in a shouting match with me before kicking me out of his house

It never never ceases to amaze me all those in denial about their life expectancy

And constant YouTube videos of elderly men in South East Asia who have passed with no will or instructions because at 80 they were in denial

Sorry to break the news but if your 80 the probality of you making 90 is not high

Sorry to tell you but it's reality!!!

So please ...make plans now and stop being in denial,

About 2 years ago I met a 82yo guy in a Pattaya bookshop cafe from the UK , he was going to buy a condo

I asked him why ....he said to live in it....I said mate ...your life is ending

Surely you must know

I said ,don't even buy a yearly lottery ticket at your age !!

In my bed, in my home, pumped up with whatever is needed to mask whatever pain there is. Nature can take its course.

The Grim Reaper speaks. You've said much the same thing at least 10 times here. Why? Do you actually think people in their 70's and 80's don't already know they're in their twilight years? Many live until their 90's, and some who think they're invincible pass in their 30's. Also, how would you know what anyone thinks unless they actually tell you? Your words above........."I remember back in 1998 telling my late father to get his Will in order and that being 78 at that time he probably wouldn't be here in 10 years ( I was right )

We ended up in a shouting match with me before kicking me out of his house".............. haven't you figured out why he kicked you out yet?

Better than a will is IMO spending the money. Spend it while the old prostate is still there.

After that it becomes a matter of how do die painlessly. One thing to keep in mind: Thailand has no euthanasia or assisted suicide provisions.

I'm sure doctors can pass on some of the good stuff to relatives, perhaps through a third party agent, for a marked up fee.

The 400/800k that you won't need for the following year's extension can no doubt buy a lot.

Not sure it's as easy to score as Ritalin or Oxycodone. We're talking about chemicals than could be used to off someone else, not just yourself.

Spending your last months in jail for buying a forbidden substance/hard drug is something you may not want to risk either.

Planned Self-euthanasia is the go.

I am counting the balance of my life in months, not years. Somehow years doesn't give me the proper amount of perspective, so if I think how long I have to go I might say to myself 200 months, maybe 250 months.

Somehow it gives each day more of a sense of urgency. And perspective is always a good thing to have.

Ridiculous. I spend my time thinking about how I can live better. Worrying about dying is for people who lock themselves in a closet with a bunch of mops and don't know how to live. I know people in their 90s who never think or talk about dying. Maybe that's why they have lived so long already.

I agree they should plan for end of life, maybe an exit bag, who wants to live through things like dementia and Parkinson's, tough on families for sure, dementia people don't seem to mind much as they have mostly forgotten who they are

I'm sure we are not allowed to discuss specific ways to end your life, but as a scientist, I'm well aware of a painless, cheap and non-messy solution. (Think party balloons!!).

I don't have to worry so much about wills because I have no person(s) to leave inheritance to, and I have (deliberately) no inheritance of value to leave to person(s). My family was estranged 25 years ago and there is no-one whom I consider worthy of receiving my 4 shillings and sixpence....

I have some 'admin' information (email addresses) of who might need to know about my passing, but after that chuck me on the fire and throw the ashes into the Mekong or Irrawaddy. Job done!

So I don't have to stress about anything.... I have medical insurance, evacuation and repatriation insurance and a small amount of cash in the bank. If I start to go gah-gah, then my 'admin' instructions are to drop me off at my mad ex #2's house and let her deal with the problem. Hey, perhaps she'll have a party with lots of balloons...!

One could always go for a mopotimoy. Fast and relatively painless. Im sure there are some statistics out there.

I met an 82 year old Norwegian a few years back, and he had a young gf in buriram he built a house to, bought a car, made sure her kids would have an education, and he was just so happy in life, and full of plans and life. He had to admit he needed a blue pill, but his wife was so young and fresh, so she did all the deeds.

And you said what again ?

My mom is stuck in a wheelchair, lost her memory, but at once she gets better she want to go to spain,

Tell me what plans you got for rest of your life ? We plan for living not dying. But I agree, making a will and make life for the left behind easier, is a good deed

Why plan ? When I reach 89, I'll take all those fine ladies to party, and discard any use of condoms. 🤣. You are free when you have nothing to loose.

Many around me died in their late seventies.. I need to stick around another 3 years, until 76, after that I don't care too much.

Also, you're not 'breaking the news' to anyone. Don't pretend like you have the inside-scoop on growing old and dying.

Dead is not restricted to age or gender rich or poor... When your given time is up you go and nobody knows when that will be.. So why think that people over 75 have to plan their end??? Have you done that already?? Maybe you are sitting for lunch in a restaurant near the road and a crazy driver drives into it and you might get killed...

You really do like sticking your beak in, what on earth does it matter to you? Whilst you might think these things, sometimes it's better not to voice them. I'm honestly surprised you don't spend more time in hospital.

I'm curious. How do you know that? Whom are you referring to in you experience. Everyone on this forum? People you personally know? Or people you don't know at all?

From a Buddhist perspective, you use your eventual death as a motivating factor to live your life. However, death will come, and the OP is correct - you should have plans.

Gee Whiz, GG goading death n taxes, u like Khun H, up $hit creek on the way

'Mygov' will send u an email telling you your pension is no more, you will then now your retired, dead, done n dusted and gone to Buddha, all free in Thailand🙏

Made a will in Thailand with a family lawyer. Left everything to the wife and if we both should die then we leave everything to the Thai family and we both have signed DNRs. So we both will be cremated, the wife the Thai way, myself cremated and my ashes scattered in a clean body of water. We are using most of our savings enjoying life while we are still healthy. It’s so much cheaper to die in this country than in the US.

Most of us won't go to Buddha.
