I'm Off To The Hospital

Featured Replies

Well, I'm off to the hospital for the second time in 6-7 weeks; the pain is too much.

I was hospitalized early Feb. for Diverticulitis, not a funny, but quite painful, problem in the lower intestine.

I was scheduled for a colonoscopy this week but the pain came back and the risk for more serious trouble is there.....so, off to the hospital.

I'll miss you Ladies & Gents :D:o

Good luck Lao Po, my mother had diverticulitis and managed to get the pain under control with some major changes in her diet. Take care and recover fast. You will be missed.

Lao Po, like SBK's mother, my mom also has it. She used to complain about it all the time, but with the change of diet she no longer mentions it. Ask your doctors as it is controllable.

Good luck with everything a wishing a speedy recovery.

I hope you get well quickly LaoPo.

Who spoke those famous words...."I'll be back"...? :D

Well, I am back.

Was released (released myself a bit...hehehe) last night. This time I was a bit faster, going to hospital, than early Feb. so they didn't give antibiotics again since the pain was not so extreme as in Feb.

The doctors are divided how to treat Diverticulitis, with or without AB...most of them chose to simply treat it with rest and a ZERO-diet in hospital controlling the hunger with an intravenous drip with normal glucose/saltine.

The Colonoscopy :D to be 'committed' end April....

But, for the time being I'm alive and kicking Easter.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and encouragements ! It is most appreciated.

Now I've to paint all the eggs and hide them outside; hope we can find them back since snow is coming with Easter :D:o

LaoPo :D

Good to see you back, LaoPo. I'd never heard of the affliction before you mentioned it. The operation sounds unpleasant, but from what I've read, it seems to involve only the removal of bits and pieces rather than an actual section of the colon. Not surprised you 'escaped' for Easter - especially with a 'zero' diet!

Thanks for your attention Ping.

However, a Colonoscopy is not an operation, it's more an "endoscopic examination of the large colon and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus" * :o

Nowadays they give you a sedation but 12 years ago I had the unpleasant experience of undergoing the same without one.... :D

* wikipedia

But you're right that they will (if they can find...) remove bits and pieces....to check upon.

Have a nice Easter Holiday.

BTW...did you know HOW Easter Eggs are produced?

Dear "LaoPo" and to all wishing you a Happy Easter.

Hope that you Kan stick to a "low residue diet". It will be difficult for you, but in the end less painful.

--------------------------------------------

A low residue diet is one that consists of a daily intake of no more than 10 grams of fibre. While on this diet for an extended period of time it is recommended that a multi-vitamin or mineral supplement be taken daily. This ensures that minerals and vitamins lost while on the low residue diet are made by taking supplements.

Grain products to be eaten while on the low residue diet include refined white bread, buns and english muffins, cereals including: cornflakes, rice bubbles, special K and cheerios, biscuits including:-arrowroot biscuits and water crackers, white rice, refined pasta and noodles, any fruit and vegetable juice excluding prune juice, stone fruits, melons, grapes and canned fruit salad, potatos with no skin, alfafa sprouts, beetroot, green beans, carrots, celery, cucumber, eggplant, lettuce, mushrooms, capsicum, squash and zucchini, well cooked meat fish and eggs can all be eaten too

AVOID:

whole grains

raw and dried fruits, sultanas, raisins, berries

broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage

all nuts and seeds

--------------------------------------------

In my days in Europe I use to cook these "low residue diets" for patients in hospitals.

God bless you on this 2008 Easter and wishing you, my very warmest and best regards to your life ahead.

Yours truly

Kan Win :o
