A Question Of Moderation

A personal message (PM) is exactly that: personal. Under no circumstances should it be posted on a forum.

people need to understand what it is they are doing when they put information onto the internet , once the information is online it is not going to go away - just making rules etc in no way fully protects them.

if some one compromised the hosting server for TV they could take a copy of the whole database ( so could the servers owners/managers ) or you could pay for it , government could request a copy if the server was in their country.

Yes, but I believe PMs are all encrypted on the server so people couldn't read them anyway even if the server was seized.

I believe you are incorrect. Even commercial sites such as Hotmail will hand over private eMail if served with an appropriate court order to do so.

However getting back to the point. Thai Visa regards PMs as exactly that Private Messages. They are not for posting on the open forum and certainly not for posting on other forums. Several members have been suspended or banned because they posted private messages from Moderators on other forums.

Similarly with material cut and pasted onto other sites. Thai Visa is protected by copyright and unauthorised copying is not allowed. Personally I don't care if people want to put my open forum posts on other sites but my recommendation is not to do it with anyone else's posts.

Yes, but in the case of ThaiVisa would they not just receive a load of encrypted, unreadable data? There was a question asked a while ago about Mods and Admins reading people's PMs and the answer given by George was that no they don't, and even if they wanted to they couldn't because they're all encrypted.

Thank the Lord for our mods.

I have heard about the " other " site for some time. Honest truth, I have only gone and found it this week out of curiosity and basically to see how the other half live.

Some old dear pals present, but what a load of #$%^&**. Vitriol does not come close.

A lesson to me certainly, that I will never ( well .............maybe the odd dig ) question the work our guys and girls put in to keep things civil.

If I want to be abused I go home to the wife. I certainly would not want the standards of abuse found there on a daily basis without the joys of marriage ( children, mortgages, debts etc ) to compensate.

Well done TV.

Most want to be mods to access Jai Dee's porn collection. :o

I'm only the custodian... I inherited it from Darknight... :D

I look at it - and some other sites - when there is nothing happening on TV, but have no interest in posting there.

They tend to hide the worst nasty stuff in the private forums (forums like Bedlum, where you have to have posted for a while before you can see it) nowdays, but the site is still mostly just hateful and mean-spirited. The only threads that are really worth reading are the ones where they all complain about why they were banned from Thai Visa anyway.

The truth is that the few pleasant posters they have are over-whelmed by the negative energy of the others.

The funny thing is that

Warning: preg_replace() [function.preg-replace]: Compilation failed: regular expression is too insignificant at offset 95 in /home/fnn/public_html/live/ips_kernel/class_ipsclass_core.php on line 744

is some of the best evidence around why Thai Visa needs to be so strict! :o

Yeah that's a good one, do you mind if I use it also?

coming back to that unauthorized publishing of PMs here or elsewhere - in my books a strong violation of the sender's privacy and says a lot about the moral of the publisher. Just checked in some of the fora I know about if my name has been mentioned, but luckily not. At least not in the public area. Lacking post count I have no access to the more private areas - if any of you has access and saw me quoted there, please report.

Speaking of which, there is a forum run and moderated by former TV members. When I looked it up, it said "Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later." - are they already out of business? Just curious.

The rumor is that another board's members (not TV) sent a lot of seemingly serious threats to the admin of the forum that you are talking about and he decided that it was just not worth all the hassles and shut down. :o

I think the Orient expat forum is having major server problems at the moment.

I've never seen your name mentioned in the private forum at that other place Raro.

They have, at various times, started threads about me, using posts I've made here in Bedlam as a starting point. One of the reasons I no longer have any time for Boon Mee. :o

There is room for all, that site certainly has some from stuff, far better than TV, likewise TV is far better than them in other aspects. I have no idea why people have to take it all so seriously.

I used to post over there and even had a few beers with members over there before i had even signed up. But i have popped in many times and the site is just not as active as TV. So i havent visited or posted for a long time.I was even suspended for trying to get some members from here to there. There is nothing wrong with having other sites. M who is admin over there is actually a nice geezer.

Quick question - who's the longest standing mod? My money would have to be on Jai Dee, Lopburi3 or possibly Tuky.

The newest addition to the mod team is Crow Boy, right?

Just had a look over there , saw nothing special , probably because no excess to the private forums ,

the generals look pretty unactive indeed .

First what I noticed were the banned posters from thaivisa , the ones most don't miss .

And the extravagant avatars , for whatever reason .

My curiosity is over , its does not look like to post much either .

Not that I am negative about it , it has more open discussion from what I've seen of it till now.

But that is mostly not what I think of having a nice conversation .

Anyway nice to had a look so I understand what you guys talk about now .

Guys,

can we please move the thread back to ThaiVisa and away from the other forums. I don't want us to wander too far away from the topic.

thanks

CB

Quick question - who's the longest standing mod? My money would have to be on Jai Dee, Lopburi3 or possibly Tuky.

Difficult question, which maybe only George or Dr PP know for sure.

As for Super Mods who've been around for awhile, RinRada (member # 13) seems to be the longest standing member that is a Mod. After that comes lopburi3 (#326), Samran (#441), tuky (#5,463. I suspect a name change or other account modification, as his join date is only 10 days after Samran).

p1p (#668) appears to be the 5th longest standing member that's also a mod.

As for good old Jai Dee (#15,398), well, hard to believe that he joined barely 3 weeks before I did ! He must be on his 8th or 9th "Add Reply" button of his keyboard (while mine still has that "new keyboard" smell to it !) :o

Suffice to say, these folks have been around for a long, long, looooooooonnnnnnngggggg time (especially considering this day and age).

I think that Reimar's the newby and I was of the belief that Jai Dee was one of the first.

Well, of course, technically speaking I suppose George and Dr PP were the first mods a they would have been moderating the site themselves in the very early days.

I reckon your list will include many of the earliest. All of those were mods when I joined, whereas many of the mods now were just members when I joined. Totster, for example, was a normal member, and in the relatively short time I've been on the site he's gone from member to mod up to admin.

Of course there is! Now, as CB suggests, back to the op. Er, what was it again? :D:o
