hi just reapplied for a marriage extension and the immigration is going to call to my home to interview my wife, does anyone know if this is now standard practise of every immigration office, and everyone that applies for marriage extension.

Maybe if you had had your wife accompany you to make the extension this would have been avoided.

Now the Immigration officials wish to ensure a wife exists and is living with you ! The officials will also probably speak to your neighbours !

Normally this is a requirement - unless there is a medical condition preventing. But at times they would be visiting home to confirm living together as husband and wife full time during under review period.

I have to bring wife to Immigrations every year, where she signs a paper.

First year we got visited by immigrations that interviewed our neighbours.

It would appear that her answers didn't satisfy the Officer. I think they just want to double check to be sure, to be sure as the Irish often say.

Or may be their excuse to get out of the Office for an hour or two

There must have been a misunderstanding, then. An immigration official will come to talk to your neighbours, not to interview your wife. They may call also on you, and if you wish you may serve them some refreshments.

Depending on the office, they immigration officer or a policeman may come to your home to verify you live with your wife and to interview neighbors. In my case they asked several neighbors about me and my wife but did not come to our house. The visit is why you are required to provide a map to your home. Standard procedure for Thai Wife extension.

Only problem with that, in my experience, is that they can't read maps. We got an unannounced visit the day after our first application, the guy visited a shop that we never use and eventually found us after I had been standing at the roadside for 15 minutes.

From what I have seen in Thailand so far, the police are quite right to do these checks ...

I hope to apply for an extension based on marriage next year.

We've lived in our house for the past 11 years but do NOT get on with most of the neighbours for various reasons.

When the officers visit I hope they don't ask the neighbours to give a 'character' reference sad.png

The purpose of the visit and possible interviews is verify your application for an extension, i.e. that you are actually married and co-habitating, not for character reference. I would not worry about disgruntled neighbors, we all have them.

Normally the visit is only done for the first extension. Unless perhaps you move to another home and are doing for the first time at a different immigration office.

I don't think they always talk to the neighbors. It should only be with the you and your wife.

Guess we live too far (about 50 km) so they just gave us 2 witness forms for 2 neighbors to sign.

Had to take a photo of each as they signed the document, print, and also attach copy of their ID/house book.

I thought it was better than us having to drag a witness to Imm.

We just had @home inspection and i'm not married to a Thai national.

Our extensions of stay are granted with my Lao wife as Non O resident.

Very casual and even friendly encounter, (NK)

just wondered if the reader's of this post could use their immagination and think of another reason why the kindly immigration would like a home visit
