Army slams red-shirt activist's abduction threat

BANGKOK: -- The Thai Army strongly denounced a threat by a red-shirt activist and supporter of the deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra urging red-shirt people to abduct the twin daughters of Thai Army commander-in-chief alive or dead to prevent him from staging a coup.

The activist, Sudchai Boonchai, who is a member of “Thaksin’s Friends” Group posted on the Facebook page urging red-shirt people to abduct Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha’s twin daughters from his sister-in-law’s florist shop in Phitsanulok province if he engineers a coup.

The twin daughters of the army chief now have two armed soldiers as bodyguards at the florist shop.

Army deputy spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree said Mr Sudchai’s threat was extreme inappropriate and was a serious breach of other people’s rights and the family institution.

He said what he wrote was an attempt to incite disorder and risked committing a serious offence.

Such aggressive behavior posed a serious danger to Thai society and the Thai people would not accept what he said, the spokesman said.

The red-shirt activist said on Facebook “taking them alive as hostages will be good, but catching them dead is also worth it. The army chief will know the taste of losing his loved ones.” His message was widely shared on the Internet among supporters and opponents of Thaksin.

Idiot who made the threat must be in hiding now. I'm pretty sure the General would like to invite him over to Army HQ for a nice chat over coffee.

not a smart thing thing to be suggesting,

Wonder what the Thai special forces boys will doing in the next 24 hours, could they be paying Mr Sudchai a little visit to have a word ...whistling.gif

Khun Sudchai is either very brave or very dumb...the latter probably applies.

One would presume that had there been some support for the Thaksin clan from the military in the present situation that support hes now been well and truly destroyed by the oafish comments made on the relevant Facebook page.

Well at least they haven't fled the country unlike Sudchai Boonchai's controller Thaksin,

Disgusting and should be condemned at the highest level in government but is unlikely to be so.

The reds have previous for this as in calling on supporters to detain any judges of the Constitutional Court they saw. YL didn't say much about that only that the reds had the right to protest around the court as long as they didn't break the law. Clearly inciting abduction is acceptable and what about the dead or alive bit ?

The same with Abhisit during the 2009 ASEAN summit in Pattaya, I think it was Arisaman calling his followers to get him and do anything they'd like to him. They "only" smashed Abhisit's car and sent his driver to hospital in that occasion.

While I agree that it's not a good thing to do, this threat, the response from the army do say something about the stance of the army and the Thai idea of "tua kai tua mun". When there were threats against the government that last few months, army chose the "neutral" stance. Threats against other people, army looks the other way. But....with this threat, there a quick decisive act.

This is just some random clown on facebook. What makes it newsworthy? There's plenty of baying for blood from the other side too. Selective reporting.

Why isn't it newsworthy? And this threat has made the news on various news outlets. Nothing selective about it. I don't see the other side making threats like that. Oh wait! Unless you want to count the fake 'attack' on Poo's son? The one that even the principal of the school said never took place.

Not a squeak from the Army when Yingluck's house was surrounded by protesters. And, they are, cough, cough, neutral when Government offices are ransacked. But now they get all upset.

What a truly moronic statement to make at any time,

but at this time particularly STUPID. crazy.gif

Red terrorists, why target the children? Let see if Yingluck will come out and condemn this as fervently as she did for the imaginary attack on her son at school.

You seem to suggest that the army should get involved in everything as if they weren't involved in more than enough as it is.

In the west the military are not usually involved domestically except in support of the civil authorities in an emergency. In many Asian countries, including Thailand, the military is involved in almost everything which is good for them as most governments pander to them to keep them onside so they get all the new toys they want etc.

We know the BIB are worse than useless and definitely play second fiddle to the army in many situations but personally I don't like the idea of a " where's the army ? " call at the drop of a hat.

If you don't see similar comments from the other side then you're too reliant on the mass media. Social networks are full of this kind of thing.

That's sick.

It's newsworthy because it was done by a leader of a red shirt group.

It was the daughters of an army general being threatened, that's why the army have commented.

Ok why don't you find those so called threats made on social media and post them here? Do it. Educate us on how nasty the 'other side' is. Show us that these people are as bad as the fella who just threatened someone's children.

I should imagine the girls will be able to take care of themselves anyway unless Thaksin's brave friends turn up mob handed.

There are two of them after all. thumbsup.gif

looks like another thaksin clown will be flying out as quickly as possible to avoid any repercussions from his stupid comment, we can only hope they catch this idiot before he gets to far and also we see the so called pm condemn him and see the police grab him for using the "electronic media" as a way to spread threats, they were pissed at the ones that suggested a coup could happen, this idiot asked for 2 girls to be assasinated.

There are some real cretins on here.

Do you really believe that the Thai army is responsible for law and order?

Bet you she wont.

No stone must be must left unturned looking for this friend of Thaksin. and further more when he is caught a public example must be made of him to stop any further similar threats. because people like him only understand one language and that is the language of the gun.

Funny. Just because you don't want people to be reminded how violent this Thaksin bunch can be it is not newsworthy.

Was the FB post made by a a random muppet or one of importance?
