Govt coming up with strategies to handle an ageing society

Featured Replies

Whilst it has to start somewhere, I feel this will be ll talk and littl action. A pension and welfare state system wuld be great but actually geting people to pay for it would be difficult, in my opinion. Getting people to pay taxes is hard enough. The plan needs to be introduced very quickly, as Thialand already has an ageing population. It would be nice so children are not forced into caring for elderly relatives for many, or if not, most of their working lives. Is there a time frame for all this talk to actually come up with sme implementation stratergies, or is it all wind?

Yes the young in the future may find life is a hard enough struggle that there will be little left over money wise to send home. On the flip side this feature seems to hold the government back as well from doing more for the elderly as the young people for now are filling the breech. Already the young people are stating they do not want to be rice farmers. These trends are starting to pop up all over the world. On a funny note reindeer herders in northern Russian no longer want to do this job because of the cold and the lack of female companionship. Women do not want to go there its to isolated and cold. Even at my advanced age the latter would be a problem.

I hope that you are put in the first boat with no food or water and on your own.

Sorry, no more room.

All "cabins" have been filled with Burmese "fishing specialists".

Certainly many previous "elected" governments never even bothered to talk about it, but at least this government is and will most likely try to do something.

Well, I wouldn't want to burst your fantasy bubble, but this issue has been "talked about", by previous governments. But you seem to have a very low bar when assessing the Junta.

FWIW, this was one minister, talking, on a TV show. His primary focus seems to be that Thais should plan on working many more years, because this will make them happy.

Thais are planning to "come up with strategies." This is a typical Thai news article that never is followed. Thais never come up with anything except another plan or program.

However that doesn't suit your negative way of thinking.

Not been in Thailand long then?

I'd suggest Euthanasia but my age means I'm a likely candidate.

I am 79 and very fit for my age but I would not be able to do a full days work.Thats why I retired from my last position as a part-timer at 70.However if(or when) I get to a state of being in a painful, drug induced terminal coma, and doing no good except filling the coffers of a local hospital with thousands of BT a day I want to be Euthanised. But of course the Doctors will not do it.

There are somethings in life that you have to do yourself, like planning before you get to coma stage

At 71 I have my exit planned but I am a bit vague on the timing. I will have to update every 5 years for the next 20 years or so.

Nah I am a newbie since 1993. How about you?

Retirement visas for rich Thais in USA sounds like a great idea. Many have huge moneys. The USA should be falling head over heels to give them visas because they can "spend money", just like the tattooed overweight whoremongering western blimps sitting on barstools. Dropping a fortune on bedsit dumps, noodle stands, and peasant girls.

As for the Thais in USA let them show say $100,000USD savings for a yearly visa extension. Work and land ownership banned buy allow them to buy a Condo. If they to work let them find an American company to sponsor a visa. Surely many of them have marketable skill sets. 555. If they want to start a business allow them to do it with sufficient registered capital to form a company and hire 4 Americans for each Thai employee. Again, ban land owning in all cases unless the company owns it and has majority US citizen ownership. Or if they want to simply marry and have a house they can go downtown in any city to pickup a crackwhore, dancing girl from a strip club or uneducated girl from a poor background and put it in her name. A wealthy Thai woman can meet some schlub half her age at TGI Fridays' who will be willing to marry if she can "take care". Instead of Cougers we shall call them Thaigers.

Of course this is all ridiculous and would be dismissed as completely racist and exploitative .

Hmm.
