PRIME MINISTER General Prayut Chan-o-cha

BANGKOK: -- PRIME MINISTER General Prayut Chan-o-cha is encouraging all Thais, including those who have currently modified engines for illegal road racers, to become innovative.

“We should engage people of all levels in research and development efforts,” Prayut said yesterday during the inauguration of an innovation fair in Bangkok.

He said some people had successfully modified engines to increase vehicle speed – but for illegal road racers.

“We should bring such people to the legal path. They have talents. Why don’t we guide them towards using their talents for legal activities instead?” Prayut suggested.

He said this approach should also be applied to other situations. For example, the Royal Thai Army’s Ordnance Department might consider recruiting illegal gun manufacturers to relevant and legitimate positions at its facilities. “If they have good skills with gun making, they may work well for authorities in the legal line of gun manufacturing,” he added.

Prayut said instead of arresting creative people on the wrong side of the law, it might be better to spur them into working for the country.

He emphasised that the very first prerequisite to innovation is to develop the people’s mindset.

“If we all pay attention to R&D, we will find solutions to increase income and more,” he said.

Prayut said Thai inventors, for example, might think of how to combine electric appliances to increase functionality and convenience.

“Check if there is a practical way to combine a fridge with an electric rice cooker. Or probably, we may combine a fridge with an electric water heater,” he said. Prayut also witnessed the signing of cooperation contracts between universities and companies interested in 12 technological innovations.

Under the contracts, the promising innovations will be developed further to increase commercial value.

Bwahahahaha!

Good luck folks. This story is just too rich!

How about if they turned their attention to producing decent (already invented) products, and decent customer service, quit selling college degrees, learn a new language or two (I speak English & the basics of 3 others)  etc, etc...

Nah. Let's have all the crooks turn into Einstein & Edison, and pay them 5,000 baht a month.

Thailand innovation.

.

Actually the man has a point.......

That's what the FBI did with Frank Abagnale,

one of the biggest check forgers of the 70s.

He is a financial fraud consultant and lecturer

for the FBI academy since his arrest.

Frank Abagnale life story inspired the film

"Catch Me If You Can" starring Leonardo di Caprio

and Tom Hanks.

.

Wow! Someone was bored and had to say something.

How about educating kids from an early age to ask questions? Have them question everything and have a strong thirst for knowledge. The answer isn't important it's how you find the answer.

This way people can come up with new ideas or add to ideas that we already know. If you won't allow this to happen, the only ideas will come from necessity. Ideas like illegal wiring because you can't afford electricity, etc.

ah the national note again; people that use and develop talents breaking the law do NOT have nationalism in their top 100 prioririties; and never will; purely personal

“Check if there is a practical way to combine a fridge with an electric rice cooker"

Check if there is a practical way to combine old Generals with manure would be better IMHO

Just checked, no, not the slightest bit practical.

What makes making guns or souping up engines illegal in the first place?  Perhaps getting a license as a gun smith is a nightmare.  Why is souping up your engine against the law ?  Is there no test tracks where people can drive fast ?

How about beer ?  Oh yeah, the government arrested a 28 year old doing just that, referring to private brewers as dirty.

The Thai government likes to get in everyone's way and then want to help.

Thais are all trained to not innovate.

Here's how you march in a parade, here's how you wai the teachers, here's how you copy a picture, here's how you copy the answers.

Now stop asking questions or you will be shamed n front of the class.

The police innovate daily; new and exciting ways to prey on business; imaginative offences to soak road users; excuses to not investigate crimes; the list is endless.

"Why don’t we guide them towards using their talents for legal activities instead?” , says the coup maker

Why doesnt he just leave and let people who have at least 3 digit IQ's and are voted in by the people, take over the country...

Thats innovative :)

Yes they want to increase income so they can increase taxes to pay for their waste.

Just love the line about .....“If they have good skills with gun making, they may work well for authorities in the legal line of gun manufacturing,”

Good idea PM. Then after they learn from the professionals they can go back to the underground to make bigger and better guns.

What is it about this man and his government that makes them keep coming out with asinine ideas?

I'd like to see convicts/criminals make all the cop guns.

The public would probably be safer as, when they tried to shoot out tires, none would work.

I totally agree with him: recruit all the mafiosi in the police and the army, they know all the gangsta tricks....

Maybe a few drug dealers too..

Oooh Wait... OK, done already :clap2:

Used something like this when I started farming in the UK aged 15 in 1960.

It was smaller and had probably been around for a good 10 - 20 years before I used it.

Sorry but can't find a picture of one.

International racing teams and the world's arm's manufacturers have applauded this move as they have long known about the secret arts of guncraft and auto tuning in Thailand.

Williams has tried in vain to get a twenty year old  Mitsubishi Lancer (fake Evo) to win a world championship. And Remington has failed in its attempts to make a fine rifle out a bit of pipe, bailing wire, and a discarded bit of spring.

Good news for the jet set monk he may be offered a position as a fundraiser of a military gov. or become a banker.

AND it takes 3 years worth of non-convicts to build an underpass in Pattaya.

Also, I fault you here...."and a discarded bit of spring."

I'm sure you meant to say STRING instead of spring.

Take criminals and don't prosecute them, give them a venue to improve their skills, pay them peanuts and hope they stay clean. Priceless!

Taksin could give him a few pointers, like how to be popular enough to win elections

Each and everyone of them a Thai Mcgyver. ?????.

I wondered why one of the locals was fitting helicopter blades to his washing machine, must be one of these inventors.

Yes. If the criminals could use every scam and shortcut in the book they know, for some kind of good, they'd already have a colony on Mars & we'd all be speaking Thai as the world's defacto language.

Lordy, Lordy, Lordy...

''He emphasised the very first prerequisite to innovation is to develop the peoples mindset ''.

Think he has forgotten that the Thai education system only produces flag waving numbnut robots !

Hypocrite. Any Thai who reads this can at least speak two languages and read two completely different types of letters.

I've read a lot of Farang posts complaining about Thai laws and practises here. Now here is something innovative, what's the problem with this?

Would bank robbers fall into this field of learning  Guess they can count money and shoot straight
