Two Taiwanese tourists in their 20s were killed after a sedan lost control on a slippery road following rains and crashed into the rear of their motorcycle in Lampang province on Saturday evening.

The fatal crash took place on a downhill curve on Lampang-Chiang Mai Road near the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre in Tambon Wiang Tan, Hang Chat district, at 6pm.

The female Taiwanese died instantly while the male tourist, who was seriously injured, was pronounced dead at Hang Chat Hospital.

The driver of the sedan with the licence plate “Kor Jor 7593 Khamphaeng Phetch” was apprehended and taken to the Hang Chat precinct to face legal action.

Police investigation confirmed that the two tourists were riding the motorcycle to Lampang when the sedan crashed into their bike’s rear.

It amazes me how the "sedan lost control" !! No, the driver lost control of the sedan...

It wasn't because of slippery roads, it was because of poor driving skills, again !!

Well said, as usual. That particular stretch of road is dangerous enough, before we add in the typical driving behaviour prevalent here. Seems no amount of steep slopes, twisting, under maintained roads, and rain will slow anybody down.

That's a very nasty stretch of road not helped by the rain. We don't know the full story: motorbike moved across the lane to turn or skidded or lost control, or the car was speeding and driving without paying attention to the road in front. All irrelevant now, RIP.

Unless it's a Tesla in selfdrive mode.

You said it was not because of a wet road, just poor driving skills. Just showing you that actually the wet road was a major factor in the crash.

Pretty sure speed was also a factor in the video after all they were racing. If you’re not racing then it would be normal or sensible to slow down in the wet.

That due to that they over and over again issue license to drive to people without knowledge or education.

Driving education will not change “careless” people nor those who don’t think of “consequences”.

no it doesnt, it shows that the driver that caused it wasnt in control of his car and did not allow for the circumstances which caused a multiple collision, in other words he tried to do something beyond his skills in those conditions. These people are driving for money so they push beyond the limits to try to win on an enclosed track, on a public road drivers need to drive within their ability which in Thailand is p*ss poor and the fact they never think of other road users. Add to this the fact that they still drive too fast in wet conditions and do not concentrate on what they are doing as can be seen every day of the week, the driver rear ended the bike so was obviously going to fast in the conditions and was unable to control the car due to their speed, not the rain or road, the driver was totally at fault

Nice one! Totally comparable situations... Dozens of cars on a dedicated track at the start of a race when they are feet from each other is the comparable to drivers on a public road. Try again.

Please dear reader don't ride your motorbike.

If you do, drive as if every other driver is out to kill you.

It's worse than a war zone.

You right. And especially in rainy season it is dangerous.  I feel safer on the road to Pai then on tjat wide road.

Wake up cornishcarlos it is time for your re-education and this time do not go to sleep in class. In Thailand no one drives a car, truck or bus, they vehicles drive themselves and they have brake failures and lose control on slippery roads, but maybe if people drove the vehicles that they have been properly trained to drive then maybe they could take control of these self driven vehicles. Lesson finished so you can now get in your self driven car and go home.

Wet road was a factor, but you would never be able to use that as an excuse outside Thailand. Main factor was probably lack of skill, excess speed and poor observation by Thai driver. Taiwanese are generally skilled at riding bikes, but used to driving on other side of road.

What are they going to do with the driver? Are they going to use his testimoney to charge the Land and Transport Ministry for premeditated murder?
That due to that they over and over again issue license to drive to people without knowledge or education.

..methinks one demerit point for this tragedy..RIP the Taiwanese couple.

The wet road cannot be blamed. It is the driver's responsibility to adjust the speed to the weather and road conditions.

Kidding. You can kill several people with a vehicle on the roads here and get a 10,000 baht fine and spend no time in prison. However you can go to prison for a bag of pot.  Go figure!

...when the sedan crashed into their bike’s rear...

Unfortunately, there are a lot of idiots on the roads in Thailand. I constantly come across similar cases. Very often I go by motorcycle or car at a speed of 80-100 kilometers per hour, and on a completely empty road behind the other car is attached and rides behind me at a distance from my vehicle less than one meter. Absolutely empty road. If you want to overtake me - overtake. If you do not want to overtake - keep the distance, idiot. Almost always, this is a songthaew, or tourist minibuses, or trucks.

Such idiots need to be deprived of their driving licenses for life and imprisoned for several years if they maim or kill people on the roads. I hope this idiot is sent to prison.

major factor in the crash - the lack of brains in the driver, who had to understand the weather conditions. if you do not know how to drive on wet roads - sit at home and watch soap operas on TV

your video clips are also inappropriate. public roads are not a place for racing, and on public roads people do not fight for first place ignoring road conditions. it's strange that you do not understand this. Are you Thai?
