A Guyanese man has been arrested in Phuket after the owner of a local language school reported a money scammer with an unusual scam.

The Immigration Bureau Chief Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn reports that they have arrested the Guyanese man named Abdul Kalam Azad Sattaur at a mansion in Phuket Town last Friday.

The arrest follows a Thai woman, the owner of a language school in Phuket, filing a report to the Thalang Police that a suspect used a fake Facebook and LINE account and claimed that he was an American man who had worked in Syria.

From the full story: He told the woman that he will send a security box which contained blank papers and a special liquid that would turn the blank paper into bank notes when she added the special liquid.

And based on that she gave him 9 million Baht? :cheesy:

Some people are just too stupid to have money and it is no surprise when such people lose it.

Now this is goes beyond stupid and she'll never see that money again, would be enough to make people learn? i doubt it very much, as the fraudster, i would make him drink his ' magic' liquid and see if he turn into a dollar...

Ahh, the black money trick. Been going on for decades yet still plenty of greedy victims fall for it.

No sympathy for those who lose out on this scam.

Would love to know the owner of which school. All school owner who i know personally here on hkt would deserve lol.

How could anyone report this, the shame of falling for such stupidity should have made her tongue fall out.

Umm this must be a scam because the scammers have the ink and paper and want money to send it to print money that they could print themselves in the history of scams this maybe the only place left on earth to try it and it failed jail them for 25 years for lunacy ????

She ought to be arrested as well for attempted banknote forgery

Anyone else spot this?

So if he's not in the photos he's taking them! Is there no end to this man's talents, especially that second photo where he must have used the self-timer!

you dont understand "thainess"

she should be arrested for being so stupid

It’s called the ‘wash-wash’ scam.... I’m surprised that people still fall for it.

Why don’t I ever meet such rich, stupid women? I only ever get the ones cleverer than me and poor!

There was an after midnight long commercial in CA TV channels in early 90s:

A guy was trying to convince people that by reading his book and using his business strategy can make thousands of $$$. “Buy” my book and you have chance to become a millionaire. ???????????? why he did not use his own book to become a millionaire and selling books !!!!

She did not think:

If that ink does magic why he didn’t use it by himself and make millions ?!!! ????????????

Is this a remake of Dumb and Dumber?

Aren't you supposed to do this scam with anonymity, so that once the victim catches on that they're dumb, they can't send the police to your "mansion" to arrest you?

Ah well just "like magic", he will be ending up in jail for a very long time. His tricks won't work in there that's for sure.

Believing without any facts to back it up hehe.

I really thought religions were the prize winners...

Many elderly people in Europe have fallen for this scam,  that is used mostly by East European/Russian gangs.

Even if she got as far as doing that, soaking paper in some liquid is not illegal.
