We will finally be constructing a new house, not far from Sa Kaeo. I've never had satellite and am seeking recommendations. I don't watch sports, though if I were able to receive U.S. baseball I would. Otherwise, give me BBC, CNN, National Geographic, NASA, Fox News and PBS USA and I'd be happy.

Just bought a new 4K 40" television if that makes a difference. Looking for high(est) resolution in those channels. Thanks in advance.

There are no 4 k channels yet transmitting. In thailand over Satellit , also Nabour country of Asia no 4 k Signal yet in service ! 40” size for 4K is to small I would recommend a size of 65” and a distance between tv and your seat of at least 5 meter ! Then you can see the full brilliance of 4 k

Things have moved on from Sat dishes, you can view anything

you want from your PC,Android box to your Tv,just Google ,

free or paid streaming services,I get just about everything i want

to watch for free,movies,series,news,documentaries.etc.

Connect your PC to router with RJ45 cable and if your PC has

an HDMI outlet to your tv with HDMI cable.

I have 3 dishes which i have never used for years, because there

is nothing you can connect to for free, maybe only Chinese or

Indian channels.

PSI is probably the best for satellite TV but has little if any content from US sources. It's perfect for a Thai wife to watch her soaps.  If you have internet service most of your viewing choices are available by streaming. If you have a home computer or laptop you can display content on your TV that is available from the internet. You will also need a VPN or Proxy that will allow you to view geographically restricted content. I stream my US TV, BBC & I-Player, AUS 9 & 7-Plus, VUDU, Netflix US and other content thru my laptop connected to my TV using the HDMI connection.

Just stick a decent <100USD Android box behind the TV and stream everything you mention through the Internet. No need for sat dishes these days. You also don't need a VPN if you subscribe to one of the premium IPTV services, some of which include 4K VOD.

Alot of this is going to depend on what internet you can get at your house. If you can get True Fiber then you can have True television over the fiber line and dont have to worry about satellite tv. It sucks. Any time it rains it goes out. True offers the satellite and fiber but it depends on your location. Same channel selection.

But IMO if you can get Fiber internet or good speed internet and if high res is your thing (it is with me) with good audio then without a doubt look into getting the Nvidia Shield:

But be careful as there are only a select few android boxes that will play Netflix and others in HD & UHD

Is vpn streaming , over the vpn Server fast enough for 4 k streaming without picture freezing ? Amazon fire tv 4K stick or Apple TV 4 th generation. 4K box would also be a good Option

Gotta be careful though, Im not sure if you can get a VPN app on the Amazon fire stick and I know for a fact that you cant get one on the Apple TV, so youd have to VPN a router.

The Nvidia Shield you can get the VPN apps right on the device itself from the play store.

Ive had 4 different boxes and the Shield is the easiest, best, most convenient one ive had.

The vpn server must installed direct in your router not in the stick it self on the German fire tv stick there a lot of media content from German free tv channels that not have geo blocking ! Not sure about the English version of the stick

If you get a Box, be sure it is a genuine one, not a clone + for best picture you need at least Android 7..

I have a Android 6 Box, stops and starts and is so so, only found out 6 months ago it is Clone Box and painfully slow......... Friend has a Android 7 genuine one, it is so much better..  so is on my wish list around 6,000 baht for a genuine Android 7 TV Box....   Note: Android TV Boxes now are on Android 9

To test I download 'Bluestack' to my PC so can install Android things [Android on Windows PC] and it works  perfect, so much better than my Android Box for TV...   my PC Monitor is 40" has been for a couple of years

Thai digital HD broadcasts look really good now.

If you don't like Lakorn, I'd just use a pc and torrents.

Satellite's an expensive lame duck these days.

Thats only part of it. There are only a few that allow HD & UHD to be played natively.

Apple TV (cant install VPN)

ROKU (cant install VPN)

Fire TV (cant install VPN)

Playstation/Xbox (cant install VPN)

Nivida Shield (CAN install VPN)

So unless you want to VPN a separate router, there isnt much selection.

If you think that looks good, watch Netflix or Prime on a 4k TV with a native 4K device.

When sitting 5 meters away from a 65" screen you won't see any difference between full hd and 4k.

Maybe you wanted to write 2 meters?

Imho this chart is about correct, i sit about 2.5 meters away from a 43" 4k screen and can't see a difference between 1080p and 4k.

So unless OP sits less than 1.8m away from the TV there is no real reason to try to get 4k.

Not quiet correct, there is no such thing as a genuine or clone android box, Android is the operating system that runs on 100s of generic boxes. Its not the brand name of a box, its the OS that runs most TV boxes, the same boxes can also be running windows, linix etc. Common brands for android boxes are names like Nvidia, minix, amazon fire stick etc,

The version of android OS wont have much impact on picture quality, its more the hardware, codecs and player etc.

If baseball is interesting to you, no need to get satellite.  Just download on your computer MLB.COM  It's a subscription site but has almost every game and you can time shift.  Just go from your laptop to TV via HDMI cable.
