Thai Music we love

One of the few times I had a go at recording, sound is poor, you need proper (and expensive) recording equipment and apart from that I just can't be bothered, although the camera I have now would do a better job. This was Takky at Ratburi in 2011.

One of my favourite songs from a singer I would still like to see live again.

Mrs is crazy about this bloke at present, was in a lakorn, I must have missed that! sings a bit apparently. Ladies all seem to think he's very hot.

This song won the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent

Organized by the New York-based Human Rights Foundation, the prize recognizes those “who engage in creative dissent, exhibiting courage and creativity to challenge injustice and live in truth”.

Play it all the time when i'm in charge of the music selection.

HUGELY HUGELY popular up here, especially out in the countryside.

Nothing yet from my favorite genre , Look Groong , the city folks answer to Look Tung. I like the big band jazz influence.

Here's one to sing to your wife next time you are plastered.

Something from one of the greatest female vocalists of all time.

First time I heard her voice it gave me goose bumps.

What a perfect voice.

USA rap is tough guy gang music

This guys fight the biggest gang with the most gun.

Brave guys.

The girl with the golden voice, Sunaree Rachesima, her family home is just down the road from Takkedan's in Korat. Does not sing a lot now but is on TV on talent shows as judge and sells her food products at Icon Siam, the new super mall by the river in Bkk. One of the first cassettes I bought was one of hers, but did not get to see her until 2003. Lovely lady now married to a Dutchman.

Luknok Suppaporn had a huge hit with Khun lam yai about 2001. Former cafe singer she was signed up by Grammy Gold but they released only one or two albums featuring just her material. She left and released her own album which she admits was not successful. Prior to You Tube the big companies could promote or hamper careers, now a singer can go it alone with a little funding or join a small company to promote them. One large company fairly recently laid off over 30 singers and others will be off when their contracts run out. One of the most loved concert singers ever, she just lit up the stage as soon as she was on one.

My wife is mine. Nice bit of chill music.

Not strictly Thai music but a Chinese song sung by a Thai, in English. Thai singers ability to sing in English is not normally very impressive, unless they are half Thai and been brought up with English, being able to sing also very well in Chinese is even rarer. This is a Teresa Teng song, an Asian super star of the 70's/80's who was popular in Thailand and died here in 1995. Ew Pempeyom is best known for covering her songs in Chinese, she is retired now and lives in Buri Ram. Beautiful sweet voice.

More Thai versatility, it's not all morlam or aping western rock music, here is an ex busker and his two daughters playing J S Bach to start with. Fm 95 still play some of their music. Music starts at 30 sec.

Thailand's most popular musician there will ever be.

One for this time of day, it means meet you in the evening, or along those lines. Deang Jittakorn from Khon Kaen sadly no longer with us. One of his fellow singers told us once she bought 4 beers, put them behind the stage and went off for something to eat. When she got back he had drunk the lot, a man after my own heart! Got the album but he was not very good at signing them. Lovely backing track.
