Best fiber optic internet provider?

Thinking of changing from True cable to fiber optic internet. Spoke with AIS already and they have a lucrative package.

 

What companies do some of you use and what is your experience? Thanks!

TOT fiber in MaeRim, about 600baht/mo, call about once a month, sometimes a broad problem, sometimes a reset they do quickly. Not enough difficulties to make me think of changing. Took the laptop to the coffee shop a few times in the past couple of years.

Doesn't really matter which of the big providers you use, in general they all work fine, there is no provider which is known for having many problems.

I am told it depends on where you live and the amount of users on your local service . 1700-2100 hours is when the kids are all using the web and it can be slow . 

Speed tests within Thailand give good readings but the real test is when streaming to a western country and your speed drops dramatically . It is said that TOT throttle all connections leaving Thailand but having said that I have TOT fiber 100/100 ish and receive a good HD TV reception from a  provider of UK programmes . 

Maybe make a very local inquiry to find out what the AIS service delivers and / or  are there other companies .   

When your new cable is installed , if it runs through your attic space , ensure that the installers protect it by running it through plastic piping as squirrels for some reason like f/o cable and bit mine 3 times which needed specialist repairs .  Always seems to happen on a Friday pm and without internet for 3 or 4 days .

I recommended to AIS, that they switch their business to noodle shops, as the fibre connection they deliver is down to often. Wonder which company has the most stable connection in Thailand. I would switch on the spot.

Ive been with 3BB Fiber for about three years. No issues during that time. Im happy with them.

Thanks for that. I noticed another user stated that he had to call TOT once a month over outage issues.

 

I have to admit that for me (where I live) that True has been exceptional in terms of reliability. It only goes down perhaps twice a year, and then only for an hour or two. But I only have the basic 799 Baht cable plan. I'm looking for better speed as our Android TV box often stalls in the middle of a movie or something and it's quite annoying.

We have AIS and 3BB.  I pay for AIS and wife pays for 3BB.  I got AIS because 3BB gave poor service IMHO.

i had True cable internet for many years, and now have had 3BB fiber for many years in BKK.

 

By far and away, 3BB has been a better service in terms of the actual reliability of the service itself and both the EN customer service provided as well as the technical support/service calls support provided. That's been my experience.

 

Also, though it's a small thing, 3BB tends to automatically upgrade customers' accounts when they bump up plan speeds while keeping the billing amount the same, whereas at least in my cable days with True, they'd never even bother to notify me when they began offering a better/faster plan at the same or better price. I had to find out on my own and specifically call to request the update/upgrade.

 

I will add however, that anyone's experience is probably going to be colored by where exactly they've living -- as the quality of internet connections depends on the local infrastructure there, and the quality of customer service and technical support likewise depends on the local providing it. 3BB has been quite good in those regards in BKK.

We had 3BB ADSL for many years.  I did not like their service and how they did business and would not go back to doing business with them.

Netflix recommends 25mbit for 4k, so with a 50/20 plan you would be able to watch two movies at the same time

All depends on your location . I have used both true and AIS and ais wins in all aspects 

 

my true was down at least once per week, evening time it’s just crawling .

 

50/20 with AIS is enough to watch playbox, YouTube on your iPad and surf net on phone at the same time with no problem .

 

100/100 with ais is enough to watch playbox and for 20 people to use internet at the same time

It depends on the source location for where you're going to be streaming from. If it's local within Thailand, you could get with a lot less. If it's from a home country outside Thailand, you want a provider that's going to give you decent international connection speeds, enough to support streaming.

 

HD video streaming usually only takes around 5 Mbps of data. 4K can take up to 25 Mbps of data. But in either case, for streaming, you'd want those data rates to be consistently available, not bouncing up and down below those levels, in order to avoid buffering.

 

Just because a Thai ISP plan is rated for certain speeds INSIDE Thailand for domestic connections doesn't automatically translate into it being proportionately faster for international connections. In fact, with 3BB, I've found no difference on international streaming speeds from the U.S. with their 500 Mbps plan vs their 200 Mbps plan.

 

That said, both support HD video streaming from the U.S. just fine. 4K is a bit more problematic, because most of the 4K video streaming sources from the U.S. typically are going to require a VPN, and and is do-able but usually works best with an Ethernet connection vs using wifi.

I'm on 3BB fibre. In Udon everybody is being upgraded free. Last week an engineer popped in after upgrading next door.

"Everything OK?" Yes we said.

"Pop into the office & they will update your router. Its 3x faster". Fair enough ????????????

I know a number of people who use TOT fiber. One pays 800 baht a month, for 180MB download, 80-100MB upload speeds, that are very consistent. It may have been some sort of special deal that they offer from time to time, but once you get in on that deal, it is long term. Pretty amazing speeds, and quality of service.

Got the cheapest TOT package and I'm getting reliable speed as below,

which is way better than I expected (I was used to Australia's NBN...............).

Installation was cowboy-shoddy but since then, all fine in Samut Prakan.

 I've never used them, but from reports here, TOT often gets pretty poor marks both for their actual internet and for their customer service... And regarding their internet, especially for slow international connections to places like the UK.

 

In terms of pricing, 3BB's 200/200 Mbps fiber plan is standard priced at 700b plus VAT per month, so I'm not sure how/why the 800b TOT price/plan you mention would be considered any kind of bargain.

 

TOT is a quasi Thai government enterprise... that ought to say all anyone needs to consider.

These type of questions it does depend heavily on location.   (no different than "which mobile sim card should I use??")

 

3bb was pretty aggressive about getting everyone upgraded to fiber.  The fiber modem is free (good quality also), and I think it is 100/30 for the ฿590 plan (was 50/20).    Once I switched, I convinced a lot of people nearby to upgrade to fiber also.  No complaints from any of them.  This is near Chumphon Town.

3BB's lowest fiber plan these days is 100/100 Mbps for 590b+ per month. They've bumped up all the stated Thai domestic speeds on all their fiber plans lately.

I live in the sticks ; before, I was with 3 BB adsl, and I moved here, came to 3 bb to have fiber, but they never came ; So I went to TOT, a little bit afraid because I have read bad things about them; but I am now with TOT fiber, very satisfied, one time I did a mistake ( reset my modem, every thing stopped ), the engineers came very fast and they told me, never do anything, if problem, you call us ...

You only need 25 - 30 Mb/s to stream a HD movie or TV. And to download from a torrent depends on what speed the Seed is sending at.

Take a screenshot of the different configuration pages before doing a hard reset of the modem.  That wipes the config settings that the ISP put it to ensure it works on their network.

AIS playbox is a digital box that allows cable TV streaming at fraction of the cable TV costs.

 

Its pretty much truevisions cable but for few hundred baht per month over few thousand with true.

 

4 fox movie channels, 4-5 HBO movie channels, fox life, and few other fox channels, blue ants channels and few sports channels, plus all the news of course.

 

If by UK Farang you mean English speaking person then plenty of English speaking channels, but by UK Farang you mean UK TV, then you get none of it
