Thai immigration police working with the department of Homeland Security Investigations of the USA have announced the arrest of a man who had been hiding out in Hua Hin.

Named only as Derick, 48, he was reportedly on overstay in Thailand of nearly 2,000 days.

He was wanted in America in the state of Virginia on charges related to the supply of weapons and marijuana.

Naew Na described him as a dangerous individual with a prior rap sheet that included threatening to use explosives, theft, burglary and drugs and weapons violations in Virginia and North Carolina.

It was found that he had come to Thailand in September 2014 and never left.

Biometrics played a part in his capture.

Daily News also announced the results of two other cases handled by the immigration police.

Also in Hua Hin two men were arrested following a scam in which one posed as a bank employee on Facebook to obtain account details of 12 victims.

Worawat, 29, stole more than 300,000 baht between June and August this year. His accomplice Karn, 24, was paid 1,000 baht a time to get the stolen money out of ATMs.

But did he file his TM30?  That would surely have lead the cops straight to him!

  • Of course biometrics played a part. Which part?

They caught him.   Scanned his finger prints.   Then scanned them again and they matched.

How? Fingerprints? His body odour?

“Examples include, but are not limited to fingerprint, palm veins, face recognition, DNA, palm print, hand geometry, iris recognition, retina and odour/scent. Behavioral characteristics are related to the pattern of behavior of a person, including but not limited to typing rhythm, gait, and voice.[6][note 2] Some researchers have coined the term behaviometrics to describe the latter class of biometrics.”

Above quote from https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biometrics

The word is bandied around often without explanation.

Nothing... But they have to add that line to everything these days..

Probably trying to lay the groundwork for when the massive corruption in the contract is uncovered :)

A Public stunt to keep the TM 28, 30

why do they have to make up all these huge, elaborate boards everytime they arrest someone.

  • Popular Post

If the guy is on a 2000 day overstay, I can't imagine he decided to leave the country and be subjected to biometrics.  So just how did biometrics play a part in his capture?

Though, they probably scanned his fingerprints and they matched to those given by the American Homeland department.

I didn't see any mention of this in the report.  Do you have some insight as to how they randomly found this guy and decided to scan his fingerprints?

I think it is time that Thaivisa DEMAND that from now on Thai immigration and other police departments publish the detailed investigation report after each arrest, because they OWE this to Thaivisa members.

Even better they should DEMAND that each Thaivisa member should receive such a detailed report in the post

Only if its  in carton form though and I need a  bigger  colour  poster than the one they have.

Definition of dangerous falang: 60 years plus white single male with loads of  baht, in LOS, and with too much viagra on board????????

I would like to see some police pointing photo's before making conclusive judgement.

new tech the Thais invented called fingerprints.

I"m thinking that this guy didn't had to worry for any of the TM variety for 2000 days and even saved himself paying penalty for overstaying his welcome, but, as they say, all good things must come to an end...

Get rid of all Americans in Thailand. They are dangerous to Thai society .5555555

Please grant an amnesty to NCC1701A and Nyezov, they're comments and stories are priceless!

We never get all the gory details like how he kept under the radar all that time and how he eventually got caught would make a great Novel

Obviously the biometrics part in the investigation. You do know what it is and how it´s used, right?

It was found that he had come to Thailand in September 2014 and never left.

        Won't be the last.

The property owner did not. They found him after 2000 days overstay after getting "help" from the US.
