Wild elephant on the warpath again: Eats crisps and breaks down villager's door!

A wild elephant who has been creating havoc for villagers in the Huay Sat Yai area of Kaeng Krajan national park was at it again at the weekend.

Park and ministry officials have been accused of dragging their heels after they promised a transfer for "Bunmee" a wild bull elephant after previous damage in the area.

This time Nawee, 45, reported that Bunmee smashed down the front door of his house that he shares with his 82 year old mother and his sister.

In the middle of the night he heard a loud noise then saw a trunk enter through the door.

The family fled to the rear of the property as the lights went out after damage to the electrical system.

Their pet guard dog had already fled in terror.

Nawee realised that this was the work of Bunmee who has become well known in the area. He thinks that the elephant was attracted by a comb of bananas he had in the kitchen.

But bananas was not the only food that Bunmee was after. Earlier he had broken a door at a convenience store and helped himself to ten packets of Lay's crisps (chips) at the store owned by Arthittaya, 52.

Locals near the park in are urging the authorities to transfer the errant elephant before someone gets killed.

"In the middle of the night he heard a loud noise then saw a trunk enter through the door."

This sounds more like Pattaya activities.

Those middle-of-the-night hunger pangs can be hard to stop.

Well past time to move a bunch of "Villagers".  At least 150 km away.   Remember who used to "own this property".

The elephant is starving, large body but not enough food for itself.

I wonder if anyone there considered to may be feed him a little or provide some kind of food, Clearly each time he is in search of food, might be cheaper to provide food for him than to move him where he will do the same thing if no food is found
