PHUKET:-- At least six tourists were injured as a tour boat collided with a yacht off near Koh Khai Nok, off Phuket’s east coast this afternoon (Dec 18).

The injured were brought back to shore at AA Marina on Koh Siray.

A medical team from Phuket Provincial Hospital and Kusoldharm rescue workers provided first aid at the scene, before those needing more serious medical treatment were taken to hospital.

Brakes failed downhill

Must have hit the yacht hard to cause that damage, good luck to the yacht owner trying to get them to pay for the, what must be extensive damage to their yacht...

I think it is the heavily damaged yacht in the picture. The other boat in the background does not look like a yacht

Interesting point of impact.....the yacht shown in the picture is a fast one...my guess is that the speedboat cut across the bow of the yacht.

They don't have steerage, they point them and go flat-out!

All to routine now. It's making a mockery of tourist safety.

None of the boats in the picture look like yachts.  My view is that the damaged one is the offending motor vessel.  The larger boat with many people on board wearing lifejackets seems to be rescuing passengers and the yacht is not shown.  Possibly the crew on the yacht have taken the picture.

Yeah, no mention of nationality and a long distance image, not deliberate I'm sure.

Boat collision kills one and injures ten in Phang-nga

One foreign tourist died and ten others were injured in a collision between a speed boat and a yacht in the Andaman Sea off Thailand’s southern province of Phang-nga on Wednesday.

One speed boat crew member, identified only as “Boy”, went missing and a search is under way by the Navy as well as marine and tourist police and volunteers from the Kusolatham foundation.

Police have not disclosed the identity of the deceased victim, who was pronounced dead at the provincial hospital, but they said that the boat passengers were from India, Iran and Israel, and that the relevant embassies have been notified.

Nothing a bit of polish wouldn't fix. It's built a little more solidly than one of those plywood speed boats.

For sure, the speed boat co. won't pay, the victims won't have travel ins. or equivelant most likely, so the med. cost to be added to the amount that retired expats are said to owe.

a hundred baht charge added to the tansportation tix for tourist should be in effect to cover these accidents.

Not all yachts have sails. The speedboat hit the motor yacht which in that picture is picking up the passengers from the damaged speedboat.
