Immigration police led by Prajuab Khiri Khan commander Pol Col Sutthipong Phutthipong paid a visit to an 83 year old British pensioner on New Year's Day.

Mr William Ivor Cook was on overstay of more than 13 years - 4,929 days to be precise.

He was handed over to the Hua Hin police for processing, reported Naew Na.

Pol Col Sutthipong revealed that he was acting on orders from Thailand immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang to rid Thailand of unwanted criminal elements and foster peace and stability in the kingdom.

The public were urged to keep calling 1178 to help with this initiative.

  • Oh yeah, no doubt he was A hardcore criminal

  • This goes to show these TM30 and 90day reportings are a waste of time.    Why do immigration need to take 13 years to nap an overstayer when everything is in the computer system?

He'll be banned for 10 years, if he is still alive after that.

How on earth would the public know whether anyone is overstaying? It isn't something you'd advertise ....

They must be very proud of themselves to caught this dangerous person of the justice system here and get him off the streets before he does harm to others

Seen  plenty of small minded vengeance in the local  village, seems they all hate  each other there, a constant  tale of  tittle  tattle  nonsense many have nothing better to do all day.

Yes but most locals have no clue about your immigration status. Your GF / wife might have so people close to you are the ones to worry about if your on overstay.

Yeah, he sounds a serious threat to National Security.

Being a "Farang" is a crime, isn't?

Surely if they are online at all exit and entry points, anyone who overstays for even one day would be red flagged by the system.

I would really like to know if he has invested in this country and what if anything he leaves behind?

How arrogant.

Criminals like him breaking the law just make it more difficult and create changes for those of us who follow the law.

Good riddance..

For 20,000 baht a stay of 4,929 days (about 13,5 years) that must be the cheapest thai visa ever.....well done, sir

They  like to  immediately  pin any problem on the local foreigner, had it  here many a time...........local water  supply has had a lot  go  "missing"....... first thing they say.....check baan farang he got many tree, had about 6 people turn up at the gate, told em to sod  off...............later it  turns  out 3  people  in the  village  all illegally  taking water....no  apologies to us + we  have our  own water  supply via  lake and underground wells. Their water  supply is barely  ever  used because 1 its filthy dirty 2  regularly  broken, 3  full of snails worms etc

Just one example  of the "stories" they love to spout.......got  many more if  you have  all day....cutting down trees was another..............more  rubbish never  cut a thing. Then there was the  filling holes in the road  where it "wasnt my  job" but they could  never afford to do it.

They didn't need 13 years. They didn't even try to find him during 12+ years. Trying to catch overstayers really started last year (I think) mainly since Big Joke.

BTW very long overstayers may not be so easy to find. They probably didn't have any contact with Immigration for a decade or two, and have probably never been registered in the actual computerised system...

It does illustrate the fact that as people grow older complying with immigration regulations (annual renewal, 90 day reports, TM-30) for a retirement visa can become increasingly burdensome. Forcing people to go through this process irrespective of how long they've been here or how old they are seems strange. If a senior citizen starts violating laws, then that obviously needs to be dealt with, but otherwise just let them live out their lives in peace, for God's sake. A more humane solution really does need to be found.

Any decent person would have turned the other cheek but not these jobsworths

Alternatively just put him on the next Thai Airways flight to the UK, there are plenty of empty seats!!

People overstay for various reasons and sometimes its not intended or deliberate. Once on overstay its a dilemma what to do. At his age there could be any number of reasons, yes its wrong to overstay but give the guy a break, you don't know his history.
