For Rodney Charman

CAN YOU HELP?

What is your blood type? Rodney Charman, who has spent his life helping other people through his work with the Ambulance Service, the Royal British Legion and many, many charities, needs urgent heart surgery.

He went in for a 5-hour operation but it was canceled at the last minute due to a lack of blood.

Neither King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok or the Thai Red Cross has the 4 Units of O negative blood he so desperately needs.

It’s just isn’t a common blood type in this part of the world.

This where YOU CAN HELP by doing one of two things.

Both free. If your blood type is O Rh Negative, please, please consider donating blood this weekend-today-now.

The details you need are below.

If you are a different blood type please forward this message to everyone you know who might be O RH Negative. That’s it. Simple but effective.

Rodney is a universal donor and has spent his life-giving. Please give something back for him; he’s too humble to ask himself.

Rodney is a personal friend of mine. Please help if you can.

Sorry I am O positive, but cant donate because I am a T1 diabetic on insulin.

Hi, I am O Rh Negative but I am in Pakchong and unable to get to Bankok. If there is a way to give blood in Pakchong I am willing to help.

I'm O negative and would love to help. But I am 700km away. If there is any way I can help I will do it and drop what I am doing.

If there is a way to have blood donated in another city/town then please let everyone know. There was a good response not so long ago in Chiang mai for O neg.

Rodney is a good friend of mine and a guy who has spent his life helping others, as a fellow O Neg person I wanted to help but was turned down because I don’t fit the Thai criteria for donating blood, not sure that Rodders would want my cast offs anyway.

i would urge all to check their blood group and pass on this message to others, let’s return the complement to a guy who spends his life helping others.

Sadly I cannot donate my O neg blood due to a bizarre rule that disqualifies me. The red cross center is so close to where I work too ????

I hope you can find a donor in time.

Contact the nearest Red Crioss office, there are ones in most provincial capitals

But first check the "criteria" which are indeed bizarre and unnecessarily restrictive:

I just posted this in the CM forum.

Second that. Also, would a hospital waive the normal requirements for a direct donation? UK citizens still cannot donate blood over here.

I'm volunteering for an organisation in Bangkok that helps certain nationals in emergency situations.

I've just sent them an email with all needed information to all members and hope that some of them might have the right blood type and donate blood ASAP.

Kind regards from Isaan and my best wishes to him. They'll get in touch with the given address.

Why not?

Mostly due to living in the UK during the BSE years.

I'm O+ but they don't want it (not exactly rare anyway).

All Europeans can't, i tried before..same reason, creutzfeld jacob. So stupid....

Would like to help.  Have donated in the past. Even have the little VIP card they give to O- donors. But now I have hypertension. Haven't donated in several years. I'm not sure what the upper cut off is for donations.

Anyone know?

On that basis I'm going to close this thread.

Thank you to all that have helped, shared and messaged. It's great news for a very deserving person.
