I can think of a couple just off the top of my head. One where the murdered Thai girlfriend was found folded up inside a suitcase (Pattaya), another where the Thai wife was found in a plastic barrel in the basement (Phuket?).

 

Look, I accept that Thai crimes against foreigners are more numerous in Thailand. It's obvious, there are far more Thais than foreigners here.

 

But, some people are in denial if they think that a white man in Thailand is incapable of violent acts. We all know that there are some very dodgey foreigners here - a tiny minority, yes, but they exist.

 

If the victim in this case was a white foreigner, and the perpetrator was a Thai (or any Asian), the responses here would be completely different, regardless of any missing or dubious pieces in the story.

It's a well known fact that, for westerners, the act of crossing a border into Thailand automatically absolves all past misdemeanors and confers on them something akin to sainthood. They are incapable of committing any crime here, that is reserved for the evil locals. 

The longer they stay, even if without lawful permission nor any obvious legal means of income, the more likely they are to be considered to be model members of the community.

They are almost certainly supporting a village of full of locals who are without the means to exist without their benefactor, and their largesse should be rewarded with grant of citizenship or at least PR.

This story smells bad ! I think the truth will follow in a few days ?

If this is a Smollett-type case, he's a more convincing actor than the former Empire star. This student was covered in blood and had to be sent to hospital for his injuries (including, presumably, to the back of his head). Smollett was walking about with a rope around his neck. A little different...

How would you know what I would say? Fact is, your analogy is a poor one. I would simply state skin colour and hair and eyes and anything else I could remember if I survived an attack from some criminal. I would say the person was white, black, light brown, dark brown, etc... and what they were wearing.

    Example:  If the guy was black... I would NOT say he looked African. I would say he was black. 
   If he was white... I would say he is white. I would not say he looked European. 
    However over the years I have become better at guessing which country an Asian person comes from.   Still wrong often,...but not as wrong as in the past.

  And if the bad guy spoke and I recognized the language, I would mention that also.

   By the way, Canadians and Americans are not usually European unless they were born there. I’m a white Canadian and although my distant ancestors were from Europe, I’ve never been to Europe in my life and probably never will be.
