That cafe is full with digital nomads/foreigners working online. There are a lot of videos on Youtube about the same with people explaining exactly what they do.  Immigration doesn't care if your clients are located in another country.

 

 

Once somebody alerted immigration about this, he will be send back to Australia.

 

You can't work remotely on a tourist visa that is extended on a long-term basis by doing illegal visa or border runs.

The jealousy on this forum, from washed up retirees and low-paid English teachers, every time they are reminded that other people have the competence, confidence, and intelligence to teach themselves enough skills to be able to earn money remotely, is hilarious.

As has been established repeatedly, the Thai authorities only care about westerners taking actual jobs in Thailand, or selling their services within Thailand. If you are working remotely on your own business, or for clients outside Thailand, they could not care less. There is nothing new about this, travelers have been doing this since long before the Internet existed. All that is new is that losers who have made poor career and financial decisions in their life are more frequently reminded of that.

The Thai authorities particularly love guys like this who have money and spend just a couple of months at a time in Thailand. This guy will never get grilled by the airport IOs or told he is spending too long in Thailand, because he is actually making enough money to be a nomadic digital nomad.

Places like this have been raided by Immigration officers in the past, simply because they were confused and thought that the foreigners in there are working for Thai companies or doing business with Thais. They were detained and once it was explained to the officers that they are doing remote work for foreign businesses, they were all let go without an issue. No one arrested, no one deported, no one fined. Thai immigration has stated in the past that they don't care if you work remotely on a tourist visa, unless you do business with Thai people/companies.

        I think your obsession with criticizing , what you describe as washed up retirees and low paid English teachers is hilarious . Plenty of positive , approving replies so far about a very positive young man anyway .

It's a good video IMO. WRT being envious, I certainly am not.  Young people should and do have it better than their parents' generation.  I certainly had it better than the Great Generation wrt opportunities and many other things..

 

 

Nothing wrong with this as long as he only stays 2-3 months at a time, as most digital nomads do.  He posts videos from around the world, not only Thailand. 

So all he needs is a tourist visa.

It get reposted almost everytime in digital nomad thread. It was a coworking space so even more obvious than a cafe. 

Lots of digital nomads post youtube videos of them working and where they live, most co working cafes are full of them. All that matters is they are not taking a thais job which they are not. I'm sure many people on vacation do online work, hardly a crime.

Are you trying to troll? Exactly the place in the video was raided by immigration a few years ago. After immigration understood that they work online and don't take Thai jobs everybody was let go.

Welcome to 2020. A good example would be the website your are using right now but there is a lot of less labour intensive/passive income opportunities. Top YouTubers make millions per year and $1000+/month is easily achievable after 1-2 years of work.

That might be true - in the moment.

But many of us who live here since many years have experienced that Thai officials changes their minds from time to time what is allowed and not allowed. And they change their mind which law they enforce this week or the next and in which location.

So now everything might be fine. But how about next week or next year?

 

Personally I have no problem with these guys. But I think it's not smart to publish all that openly on the internet. Because that will inspire some officials to act according to their interpretation of the laws. And I am sure that won't be fun for the people who like to keep a low profile but are dragged into the open by others.
