The area was surrounded and the suspect was found alone. The onboard diagnostics in the smart car - notebook, tablet and internet connection to the immigration database - confirmed the worst.

As suspected, an iPad with a data plan would do the exact same job as this car lol.

There have been a variety of stories regarding overstayers being found out lately. There never seems to be a picture of the "public spirited citizen". Wonder why. A large amount of officials descending on one unsuspecting foreigner is the norm here. But it does come across as being similar to umpteen men , horses and hounds hunting down a hapless fox.

I just hope you are 100% perfect.

i deeply sympatize with the Japanese pensioner but i totally agree with you. Thai immigration are just doing their job, and actually western immigration should learn from that. Oops here i am advocating to remove ilegal aliens in our home countries bloody nazi that i am!

Anyway, its weird, if he is a pensioner why he dont arrange a pension visa.

and lastly, an old loner like that, it might be even in his own interest to be sent back.

Plz stop complaining about Thai officials doing their job.

Maybe the deadly criminal of a naughty foreigner was subsisting; by taking on her identity I. E pension etc  and ignoring all else in the letterbox?

Subsisting on his dead Thai wifes' pension! 555! Do you know how much that is?...600bht/mth at age 60...that would go a long way!!!

Poor man but rules are rules!!!

20 Thai brownie points for the informant and immigration a proud day for all involved. ????

Here we go again: they need 8 officers to check and arrest and old quiet fart, where 2 officers should be the norm and sufficient. Imagine how productive this country could be if they learn to organize themself.

In Thailand it's said eight on one.

I fully understand the law of the land but also have some sympathy for the old fella

living alone & more than likely miserable as sin after the loss of his wife.

He must have had some money to allow himself to live.

Special case treatment, ?  Na

That's some high tech sh-it they got in that super VIP  BMW "smart car" you can run but you cannot hide! ????????

The take away from this: make sure you feed the soi dogs, and MAKE SURE the locals are winning. (baht at the funerals, baht at the weddings, baht at the temples, baht to extended family, baht to local labourers, daily snacks and baht for early morning saffron clad illuminati.

His fatal faux pas of mourning in personal quiet peace, cost him dearly.  RIP and enjoy what's left of retirement back in Japan.

Thailand accepts your generous donations of everything not packed in your suitcase.

Do you of;;ow all the rules?Do you know all the rules? If you've broken one single rule you should be deported. In fact you should be deported for your lack of knowing what is right and what is wrong. You would have to be a supporter of the current foul regime with such an attitude. Not all rules are just.

The man knew he was overstayedWhat you are doing here is called a "Straw Man " argument. . Of course I don't know all the rules certainly as the law in Thailand is whatever a man with a badge says it is. Do you know what happens in Japan if you live there in a spouse visa and your wife dies? SAYONARA!

Of course in Japan you can get PR after living there as a spouse for a few years. The same should be true in Thailand, one should be rubber-stamped PR after a few years. It is sad that the Japanese man ran out of options. Maybe we should start a petition to send to the PM to change Thai immigration law?

Attacking Thai immigration for doing their job, this is an open forum is it not, and please do remove the shades that blind you.

Could it be that the overstayer had some very fond memories in this house with the woman he loved and married, photos of her around to remind him of her, the bedroom they shared, dining table eating and chatting away, living room watching flicks, perhaps he was just reminiscing and felt her presence close to him and couldn't come to terms of leaving the place that gave him so much joy with her.

I know if my wife passed, I would be devastated and would want to remain here, although I would be breaking the law if I didn't change extensions and reapply annually, so so many fond memories.

I also wonder if he visits her grave site daily ?

But yes, your right, rules are rules aren't they, and they are not to be broken, especially here in Thailand where they are broken by their own kind daily and no one does anything about it or turns a blind eye, so best they send him to where he probably hasn't been for a long time, Japan where he probably has no family, no friends, although he might get lucky and get struck down with the Coronavirus in the "land of raw fish", yes humility at its best by the Thai's, I tell you sometimes I seriously want to exit this place and might just do that if I here more heroic BS like this as it's not the land of smiles, it's the land of backstabbers/haters of farangs.

Was he working, taking jobs away from Thai's, no doubt it doesn't matter, he was an overstaying and we have some pretty happy immigration officers beating their chests and of course justifying their BMW smart cars while many Thai's live below the poverty line, albeit they think they are doing a good job by calling in this farang, how selfless of them, perhaps they can ravage the house now and or do something where they will gain something from this man's misfortune.

They say everything is not black and white in this world, you have to allow for some grey in between, obviously for you everything is either black or white, which I would presume is a sad way to live.

Your comment on the other hand is a bloody disgrace, you lack empathy and humility, and if Karma does exist, well hopefully she will visit you one day real soon now and perhaps you could think about that.

Any Voodoo doctors in the house.

That is very true. It does bring into question what rights (if any a widower of a Thai lady has). In this case it appears he had none.

So he supports her and most likely her family for years and then is booted out as soon as discovered. Sad really. It is the law and as others have said he should have gone for a pensioners visa, but most likely just a frightened old man living alone who did not know what to do.

Snitch is probably after the house and belongings.

You can live legally in this country for 20+ years with your wife and you will get kicked out right after she dies. Nasty.

They had been told by the informant that there was a person who looked like a foreigner who hardly ever went out of his house. They thought he might be a wanted criminal.

No worries. I bought a smart-car blocking device on Wish.
